DIY: Mason Jar Beeswax Candle

If you’ve always wanted to try making your own candles, our kit makes it super easyand it uses locally sourced beeswax, which also happens to smell fantastic.

The kit includes two blocks of natural beeswax, a mason jar, six-inch candle wick, black pre-stamped tag, and black and white string. The tags are stamped with Mind Your Beeswax in Ale Paul’s Brownstone Slab typeface.

• Spoon
• Measuring cup (optional)
• Tape

Prepare your mason jar by placing your wick (metal side down) inside your jar. Keep it centered and upright by taping around the wick. Make sure you leave enough of an opening to pour the wax through.

Take your two blocks of natural beeswax and place them in a pot over low heat (Important to note: Do not heat on high heat or it could ignite). Constantly stir the blocks around the bottom of the pot to prevent burning and sticking. It should take about five to seven minutes for the wax to completely melt.

If the pot you’re using has a spout, pour the wax directly from it. If not, pour into a glass measuring cup and then immediately into your mason jar. You’ll have to do this quickly as the wax will dry fast once it touches the cool jar. When your candle is poured and your jar, measuring cup, and pot are still warm, wipe away any excess wax from the jar with a paper towel and remove as much from the measuring cup and pot as you can. Wash the cup and pot with hot, soapy water.

Let your candle harden completely (12 to 24 hours), then trim the wick to a shorter length.
