DIY LED Sunglasses

IMG_3046.JPG

This is a simple project that is a lot of fun to make. The electronics are simple, and building is even easier. I made these sometime in the fall of 2017, and I think this is a good project for beginners, or masters who want a fun, and easy project.

The Materials

You don't need that many materials for this project, so you might be able to make it completely out of materials you have at hand. You need:

Two single color LEDs, I used blue but you can use any color you want.

Four wires, preferably black.

A pushbutton with four pins (You could use a switch but since I used no resistors that could cause the LEDs to short out if left on for to long.

A 9 volt battery connector *

Black Tape

Tools:

Soldering Iron

Hot Glue Gun

9 Volt Connector

This is an optional step, but I think it is a good way to reuse dead 9 volt batteries. If you look at the picture, you'll see that you can take apart Energizer 9 volt batteries, recycle the individual batteries inside and reuse the top. HOWEVER. NOT ALL BATTERIES ARE LIKE THIS, ENERGIZER MIGHT HAVE CHANGED THEIR NINE VOLT BATTERIES. TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. WEAR PROPER SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND HAVE AN ADULT NEARBY TO HELP IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG. BATTERIES ARE VERY DANGEROUS, EVEN WHEN DEAD. (I'm sorry for all the caps lock, but they can be very dangerous or even deadly.)

The Placement

Since I am making this instructable after I made the project (I made in October or November of 2017) I don't have a picture of the original pair of sunglasses, I'm just showing the finished product. I suggest prototyping the electronics on a breadboard first to make sure all your pieces work.

---- = wires # = battery ^ = led * =pushbutton

J---#-----------^-----------^------*---------J

J represents the point where the other wire connects with the battery, I can't curve the line. When you are attaching this to sunglasses, make sure your circuit is complete and working. To attach it, you just drop it on top of the sunglasses.and secure the LEDs with hot glue, and the wires/pushbutton/battery with tape.

I wasn't able to get any good pictures of the sunglasses on, my attempts are above. I am entering this in the Epilog XI contest so please vote for me and leave a comment below. If you make this or have any suggestions or requests for new instructable, please leave a comment, I'd love to know what you think.
