DIY Jewelry Organizer (Wall Mount)
My wife wanted a way to organize all of her necklaces. I didn't want to spend any money... Here's the result.
Old Hinges
We had these old hinges left over from our kitchen remodel. They matched the pallet wood feel nicely.
Separate Pallet Slats.
We used a reciprocating saw to cut through the nails. We made sure to use a heat treated pallet, and removed all the small nails before moving on.
Accent Paint.
Paint a few random slats to add color and variety. We painted lightly to give it a "distressed' look.
Chevron Pattern.
We laid out the pallet wood back in what was supposed to be a "chevron" pattern. It ended up not being right, but still looked pretty cool.
Apply Backer Board.
We cheated a bit and used 1/8" ply backer board to hold the pattern in place.
Glue in the Back.
I cut a rabbet on the table saw to hold the back of our cabinet in place.
Build Front Door.
I mitered the corners of some pallet slats and added chicken wire to make the front door.
Sand and Finish.
We were going to stain the cabinet gray but it didn't look good. We had an old can of spray on clear coat to finish it.
Add Hooks.
We used hard cut masonry nails as the hooks for her necklaces. Unfortunately they were a little long, so I had to cut each one of them down with the sawzall.
Finished Product!
She was thrilled with the finished product. We mounted it on the wall and filled it up. A nice addition to our hallway between the bedroom and bathroom.
