I had an old car inverter. I removed the board from the inverter and used this, for making my own inverter box with variable power supply and emergency lighting. This inverter had one AC socket and a dual USB port 5v 2A.

Supplies

  1. Inverter board
  2. LED strip
  3. Toggle switch
  4. Banana sockets
  5. 12v DC socket
  6. 3s Battery pack
  7. Push button
  8. Digital voltmeter
  9. XL4015 Buck converter
  10. Wires and connectors

Design

I made a simple box using 6mm MDF. I used a 2mm Aluminum sheet for the removable plate of the box. I made cutouts for AC sockets, USB ports, LED lights, DC Sockets, etc. The led strip is stuck to thin aluminum plates and mounted to the removable panel.

Mounting and Wiring

For the power source, I have used a 3S battery pack, placed inside the box. This box has 2 outputs, one variable (banana plugs) and another 12v (DC plug). The voltage can be varied through a potentiometer(replaced SMD pot of XL4015 board with a panel mount potentiometer). Battery is connected to the inverter board through an XT60 connector. the LED can be triggered through the toggle switch.
