DIY How to Make a Quilted Electronic Device Pillow Stand + Fabric Origami Butterfly - Bravo Dada! Sewing Tutorial
Hi everyone!
In this sewing tutorial I’m going to show you how to sew a quilted electronic device pillow stand and a fabric origami butterfly to decorate it. This quilted stand is perfect to keep your electronic device clean and safe but also to watch videos, scroll through pics, read a book and-so-on, without holding your phone, tablet or e-reader. This is a beautiful home decor item and makes a great gift for family and friends as well.
Important note: I use the metric system and make the exact conversion from cm to inches in the hope of helping. Please adapt these measurements to your ruler.
Hope you enjoy this tutorial. 🥰🪡
Supplies
NOTE: Dimensions in inches are approximated.
The materials and techniques I used are the ones I thought were the best for me as a self-taught creative seamstress. It doesn’t mean they are the best for you, so feel free to use your creativity and make it your own! You can adjust the measurements as you like and also add other features.

Quilt the Front Piece of Your Pillow Stand
- Cut the fabrics.
- Mark the quilt lines diagonally, with a heat erasable pen, leaving 2cm | 25/32" between them.
- Mark the vertical and horizontal quilt lines as shown in the images.
- Place the fabric piece on top of the batting.
- Adjust the stitch length according to your preferences. Use a 90/14 sized needle.
- Sew the quilting lines.
- Trim the excess threads.
- Align the ruler with the first line of stitches and trim the excess batting from each side.
- Press the quilted fabric piece to remove the lines of the marking pen.
Sew the Front and the Back Pieces Together
- Place the right sides of the front and back fabrics facing each other.
- Sew them together leaving the top open and a 3cm | 1 3/16" gap on one of the longest sides. That opening should be placed 2cm | 25/32" away from the edge.
- Now align the corners of the top edge together so that the top edge is perpendicular to the bottom edge (of the top) and sew them together leaving a 4cm | 1 37/64" opening on the back fabric.
- Sew with a seam allowance of 0.7cm | 9/32".
- Trim the excess fabric from the corners.
- Turn the pillow stand right side out and press it.
- With a heat erasable pen, mark the stitching lines 4cm | 1 37/64" away from the bottom edge and then mark another parallel stitching line 2cm | 25/32" away from the first one.
- Sew the lines.
- Press the pillow stand.
Stuff the Pillow Stand and Sew the Seam Opening Closed
- Stuff the bottom and the top of the pillow stand with polyester hypoallergenic fiberfill and high-density polyethylene plastic (poly pellets) for crafts.
- Close up the openings with an invisible hand stitching.
Make the Origami Butterfly
- Place the right sides of the fabrics facing each other and sew them together leaving a 6cm | 2 23/64" opening. Sew with a seam allowance of 0.7cm | 9/32".
- Trim the excess fabric from the corners.
- Turn the rectangle right side out.
- Press the rectangle.
- Edge stitch, all the way around, 0.1cm | 3/64" away from the edge.
- Fold the rectangle in half and press it.
- Fold the rectangle in half a second time, press it again and unfold it.
- Pull open the top layer to the left side bringing the top left corner to the center and press it down into a triangle.
- Pull open the top layer on the right side and repeat the fold bringing the top right corner to the center and pressing it again.
- Make sure to line up all the corners neatly and press them to make both sides as symmetrical as possible.
- Align the ruler as shown in the images, draw the stitching lines and sew.
- Press the stitching lines to remove the marks of the heat erasable pen.
- Fold down the left and right top layers towards the triangle peak to finish the butterfly and press again.
- Please see the above images for more details. If you're a visual person like me, that will surely help!
Attach the Butterfly and the Pom-poms to the Pillow Stand
