Building the Main Structure
Let’s do this project! Focus on the most important element: the structure. This will be the main support for both the roof and side paneling. To build the structure, you will need:
- 2 2x2 profiles with a length of 23.5 inches.
- 2 2x2 profiles with a length of 20 inches.
- 4 2x2 profiles cut at a 45-degree angle and measuring 15.13 inches in length.
Start by making the frame using the 23.5-inch and 20-inch profiles. Build the frame following the diagram provided earlier. Once the frame is done, proceed to attach the posts, and cut at a 45-degree angle, at each corner of the frame. Kudos! You’ve made the main structure of this small dog house.
Roof and Facade Access Structures
The following step will focus on two sections shown in the diagram: the roofing framework and the frontage entry structure. Let me explain how:
Roof Structure: For the roof structure, you will need the following parts:
- 4 2x2 profiles with a length of 16.25 inches.
- 1 2x2 profile with a length of 26.5 inches.
Start by placing the 4 profiles measuring 16.25 inches evenly on the posts at a 45-degree angle cut. This configuration will form the structure of the slanted roof. In the center of this structure, secure the 26.5-inch profile to improve its strength.
Facade Access Structure: For the facade access structure, you’ll need the following materials:
- 2 2x2 profiles with a 45-degree angle cut and a length of 18.88 inches.
- 1 2x2 profile with a length of 9.5 inches.
Start by building the frame. Position the 9.5-inch piece on both ends and affix the two 18.88-inch sections at a height of 13 inches. This frame will be placed on the facade of our structure. Make sure the frame is accurately centered and firmly secured.
Upon completing these steps, you will have already the roof and facade access structures of the project.
Floor and Roof Covering
The next step is simple. Gather the following materials:
- 3 profiles of 1x10 with a length of 19 inches.
- 3 profiles of 1x10 with a length of 18 inches.
- 4 profiles of 1x4 with a length of 23.5 inches.
Begin by affixing the 23.5-inch pieces to the bottom frame to assemble the house's floor. These sections will act as the base for the flooring.
Next, use the 19-inch and 18-inch profiles to cover the inclined roof. Position the larger profiles to overlap the smaller ones, following the examples illustrated in the diagram. (1 over 2). This will guarantee the achievement of adequate coverage and establish a stable roof frame.
By successfully completing these steps, you will have the floor covered and the sloping roof of the house fully covered.
Final Touches
Kudos DIYer! You're on the last step and almost done with your Dog House project. For this step you’ll need:
- 6 profiles of 1x4 with a length of 27.5 inches.
- 6 profiles of 1x4 with a length of 5.25 inches.
- 3 profiles of 1x4 with a length of 22 inches.
- 6 1x4 profiles with 2 cuts at 45 degrees.
Let's get those final touches done:
Front Part: Place the 6 profiles, each measuring 5.25 inches, and attach them to the ends. These will be situated at the front section of the structure.
Top Part: To construct the upper segment, you will require 3 profiles with 45-degree cuts. For a more comprehensive perspective on the measurements and angles needed, consult the 3D model of this project offered by Craftyamigo.
Sides: Utilize the 6 profiles, each measuring 27.5 inches, and affix them along the structure's sides. These profiles will offer stability and reinforcement to the lateral aspects.
Back Part: Begin by securing the 22-inch profiles to the rear section of the structure. Afterward, affix the profiles with 45-degree cuts. This configuration will finalize the back section of your project.
By following these steps, you will add the final touches to your project. You're almost done!
