I saw a picture of a heart wristlet and thought it was really cute. But I didn't want to buy one,so I decided to make one instead.I think it turned out pretty well. Let me know what you think!

Supplies

  • 1/2 yard pleather or other stiff fabric
  • ribbons,bows,gems(optional)
  • sewing machine
  • matching or contrasting thread
  • pen and/or tailor's chalk
  • fabric scissors
  • sheet of paper
  • measuring tape
  • zipper
  • needle & thread
  • clothespin (optional)

Make the Pattern

Take your piece of paper and fold it in half length wise.draw half a heart on it(if your heart just won't come out right, you can just trace or print one out, just make sure it's even) .You can make it bigger or smaller if you want to.After you've drawn your heart, you're going to take your measuring tape or ruler and make a mark 1/4 inch away from your heart.Trace all the way around from 1/4 inch mark to make a slightly bigger heart,A.K.A. your seam allowance.then cut it out.If you want to make yours the same size as mine, use my pattern.

Cut Your Fabric

Flip your fabric over so the wrong side is facing up & place your heart pattern on your fabric.Take your pen & carefully trace around your pattern.Cut it out.trace & cut another the same way.Next, cut out your strips for the sides. For the long strip:width of your zipper x 12 1/2". For the two shorter strips:width of your zipper x 3 3/4". Then cut out another piece that measures 2 1/2" x 12 1/2".

Sew the Sides

ok, now it's time to sew! Take one of your shortest strips and fold over the short edge 1/4". sew it to one end of your zipper like shown.Repeat for the other short strip.next, fold your zipper in half & place the folded part at the top of your heart, like shown in a (make sure you crease the folded edge). Unfold it and line up the crease with the top middle of your heart(b). You may need a clothes pin to hold it in place.Starting from the middle, sew to the end of the zipper.Repeat for the other side of the zipper(). Now take your longest strip of fabric that is the width of you zipper & fold it in half to make a crease. Unfold & line up the crease with bottom middle of your heart. Then from the middle sew it leaving about 3/4 inch unsewn.Repeat for the other side(d). Take two of the sides & wrap them around the curve like I'm doing in e. Sew the strips around the curve, when you've sewn it,they should look like picture f. Do the same for the other side.

Sew on the Other Heart

Make sure your zipper is open.Line up your edges & sew them together, then turn it right side out.

Make the Strap

So we've made the bag,now lets make the strap!

take your last strip of fabric & fold it in half length wise to make a crease.unfold it &fold sides to the middle crease. Now fold that in half (length wise). You can use clothes pins to hold it together.Sew the open side first, then the other side.Next, fold it in half width wise & sew the ends together.

Add Your Strap to the Bag

Take your strap & push it through one of the gaps you've left on the sides.Sew it in place with a needle & thread.

Shape & Decorate!

If you used pleather like I did, then your gonna need to shape it.I did this by stuffing my bag with pillow case and pinching the seams for a while. Now here comes the fun part, decorating! you can add bows, gems, decorative stitching, whatever you think makes your bag awesome.I added a bow with a little heart, but I think I'm going to add some gems to it later.

Thanks!
