DIY Halloween Art

Making Halloween art doesn't get any easier than this. Maker your own with just a handful of everyday materials and the Preval Sprayer.

• Burlap canvas (Hobby Lobby)
• Black and white craft paint
• Painter’s tape
• Small round paintbrush
• White pencil
• Black sharpie marker
• Exacto knife
• Embellishments like ribbon and spiders (Spiders available at Michaels)
• 2 Preval Sprayers (Amazon.com)
• Hot glue gun
• Small round paintbrush
• Paper towels

Tape around the edges of the canvas, leaving a narrow exposed edge on all four sides. Then, fill in the center of the canvas with tape, taking care to cut any excess at the top and bottom. (Watch the video to see how it's done.)

Next, prepare the Preval Sprayer with black water-based paint.

Add 1.5 oz. of paint and 1 oz. of water to the jar. Cap, shake and attach the spray can.

Then, spray the exposed edges of the canvas, coating both the top and sides in paint.

Using the Preval Sprayer to apply this water-based acrylic paint gives you the same finish as a can of spray paint but with little to no odor, and it’s much safer for you, your family and the environment.

When you’re done spraying, use a paper towel to blot excess paint off the tape.

Using your white pencil, draw the word “BOO” vertically down the tape. Don’t worry about making mistakes. In the next step, you’ll perfect the letters using a Sharpie marker to indicate where you’ll cut.

After the letters are done, draw hatch marks inside of the letters. This will make it easier to see where the tape should be removed.

Following the lines you’ve made, lightly score the surface of the tape with an exacto knife. Use the point of the blade to lift the corners of the tape and carefully peel it away from the canvas.

If your letters look a bit thin or uneven, draw new lines and cut across them.

Next, using the same formula as before, fill a fresh Preval Sprayer with white water based paint.

Cover the black edges of the canvas with tape and firmly press the edges down. Then, spray across the letters. (Be sure the paint in your sprayer isn't too thin, or it might bleed past the edges of the tape.)

Let the paint dry before completely removing the tape and painting with a paintbrush around the edges of your words with black water-based craft paint.

Next, unroll ribbon across the horizontal and vertical lengths of the canvas and hot glue the ends to the back of the canvas frame.

Last but not least, hot glue embellishments, like these glittery spiders, to the corners. This Halloween art is ghoulishly fun to create. Make it your own with unique embellishments and colors.
