DIY Glowing Moon Lamp 🌙✨

The moon has always fascinated us with its beauty, mystery, and glow. So why not bring a little piece of the night sky into your own room? This DIY Moon Lamp is an easy yet stunning project that combines art and science. Using simple materials like cardboard, paper, plaster mix (POP), and fairy lights, you can recreate the moon’s cratered surface and enjoy a soft, magical glow at night.
This project is perfect for space lovers, students, or anyone who enjoys creative crafts. Let’s get started!
Supplies

- Cardboard circular base (3) 5mm. each
- Glue
- Paper
- Acrylic Paints (grey white and black)
- Paint Brush
- POP (Plaster of Paris)
- Spatula
- Fairy lights / LED lights (warmer tone)
CUT THE BASE

Cut a 30 cm diameter circle from 5 mm thick cardboard. This will be the main base of your moon lamp.
BUILD LAYERS AND BORDER

Cut three additional circles from 5 mm cardboard and glue them to the base for thickness.
Next, cut two strips (3 mm thick and 2 cm wide) and glue them around the edge to create a raised border.
REINFORCE WITH PAPER
Cover the entire base with papier-mâché (small torn paper pieces dipped in a glue + water mixture). This will make the structure sturdy and smooth.
CREATE THE MOON SURFACE

Mix POP + glue + water (medium consistency — not too thick, not too runny).
Spread this mixture over the surface.
While it’s still wet, use a spoon and brush to sculpt craters and texture, just like the moon’s surface.
Cover the back as well. Leave overnight to dry completely.
PAINT THE MOON

Paint the surface with shades of grey and white.
Use darker grey inside craters and lighter tones on raised areas to give a realistic 3D effect.
ADD THE FAIRY LIGHTS

Attach fairy lights along the inner rim or surface. Fix the battery pack at the back with tape or glue.
Switch on the lights — your glowing moon lamp is ready to shine! 🌙✨
