Draw a Small Heart

Before using the hot glue gun, it’s helpful to plan out the shape of your ring design. Take a piece of parchment paper or a silicone mat and use a pencil to lightly draw a small heart. This outline will guide your glue application, ensuring a well-formed shape. If you find freehand drawing difficult, you can print out a heart shape, place it under the parchment paper, and trace over it. The heart should be small enough to fit comfortably on a ring but big enough to stand out.

Apply Hot Glue Over the Heart

Now, plug in your hot glue gun and let it heat up. Once it’s ready, carefully start applying the glue over the heart shape you drew. Begin at the outline and work your way inward, slowly filling in the heart with glue. Try to make it slightly raised so that it has a puffy, 3D look. Be sure to apply the glue smoothly and evenly to avoid bumps or air bubbles. If needed, you can use a toothpick to shape the edges or push the glue into place while it is still warm. Let it cool for a few seconds until it firms up but is still slightly tacky for the next step.

Attach the Ring Base

Before the glue hardens completely, take your ring base and gently press the flat part onto the back of the heart-shaped glue. Make sure the base is centered, so the ring sits evenly when worn. Hold it in place for about 10-15 seconds to ensure a strong bond. If the glue cools too quickly and doesn't stick well, you can apply a small drop of fresh hot glue onto the back and press the ring base into it. Let the ring sit for a few minutes to allow the glue to fully harden before moving on to the next step.

Dip the Ring in Glitter

Now comes the fun part—adding sparkle! Take your dried glue heart and apply a thin layer of clear glue or Mod Podge over its surface. You can use a small paintbrush or even your fingertip to spread the glue evenly. Once covered, immediately dip the ring into a bowl of glitter, pressing it down lightly to ensure full coverage. Shake off any excess glitter and let it dry for a few minutes. If you want an extra glittery look, you can repeat this step by applying another layer of glue and glitter.

Enjoy Your Sparkly Glitter Ring!

Your DIY glitter ring is now complete and ready to wear! Before putting it on, consider sealing it with a layer of clear nail polish or Mod Podge to keep the glitter from falling off. This also adds a glossy finish and makes your ring last longer. Try making rings in different colors, shapes, and styles to match your outfits or gift them to friends and family. This project is quick, fun, and a great way to create affordable handmade jewelry.
