DIY - Give a New Life to a Product With Leather

Many times when working with leather there are small leftovers, in this Instructable you will learn what to do with them and how to work leather with common tools and materials we may have at home.

Squares

1. Cut a small square of cardstock (smaller than the pieces of leather you have)

2. Draw the outline of the square on each piece of leather

3. Cut them

The Object

In this case, I will cover a nail tool kit that was very old, so I can give it a new life.

Sticking the Squares

Join the squares with masking tape (as shown in the image) and cut according to the shape of the object you want to cover. In this case, I placed the nail tool kit over the leathers, drew the outline, and cut.

Sew

On the leather, I marked a point every 5 mm, and then I sewed as seen in the image.

Glue

Afterward, I glued the leather over the case. I did this with a glue called "Pegaucho" that I found in Colombia, but any glue that works for all kinds of materials (or if the instructions say that it also works for leather) will work.

Edges

1. Draw the edge on cardboard.

2 - 3. Mark every 5 mm

4. Copy the marks on the edge of the object

Finally, with a thick needle and thick thread sew the edge.

Ready to Use

Following this simple technique, I have covered books and some other objects. I really like it because I am using what some would consider waste and it still has a very nice finish. (also I have not had to buy special tools for leather)

I hope you like it and that it is useful for you!
