DIY Gift Box
The loved ones in our lives deserve everything for all their hard work. What's a better thank you gift than a gift that shows complete thought and consideration? Today I will be showing you how to make a cute gift box for any gift, including (but not limited to) an anniversary, birthday, celebration, or a "just because" gift. This gifting technique has quickly become my favorite due to the available creativity and relaxation that occurs when you start at nothing and create something extraordinary. Don't forget that it's the thought that counts over the presentation or monetary value, so let's get crafty!
Supplies
-One box (any size)
-Multiple rolls of tape (masking)
-Colorful yarn
-Index cards
-Scissors
-Sharpie
Create the Base
1) Begin the base with the main tape color, covering the bottom (make sure to fold the tape edges up and around the walls)
2) Once the bottom is covered, tape the walls layer by layer
Do the Lids
1) Now that the walls are covered grab the two main lids and tape them in the same manner (place the final strip in the middle of the top and fold each side down, cut the excess of the sides) <-- demonstrated in pictures 2 & 3
2) Then, grab a different colored tape and tape that color on the 2 smaller lids repeating step 1 (This allows for a pop of color)
Measuring
1) Place the box on the ground and create a flashcard border (use multiple flashcards if the box is too big)
-Allow the flashcards to slightly jut out from the box shape
2)Tape together the measured sides to ensure that the length will be long enough
3) Once the lengths are finalized mark each flashcard to how long you wish the sides of the lid to be, then cut
4) Now that the flashcards are wide and long enough, place a strip of tape along one edge to ensure stability
Taping the Sides
1) Use multiple layers of tape for each strip to ensure that they are strong enough (match the lengths to different colors to bring another pop of color)
Creating the Top of the Lid
1) Press the box lids down to create a flat surface and place flashcards on the top (place enough to allow the flashcards to hang over the edge of the box)
2) Once the desired length is found place the pieces together and repeat step one until the top of the box is hidden by the flashcards
3) Tape each set of flashcards together to create the base of the lid
Decorating the Lid
1) Continue using the main tape color and cover the top of the lid with two layers of tape
2) Create a circle in the middle and fill the circle with squiggly lines
3) With a sharpie, write "I love you times infinity" (or any other desired message)
1) Place the previously made lid sides onto the bottom of the lid top and place a piece of tape in the middle, connecting the lid side to the lid top
2) Place a horizontal strip of tape along the edge next to ensure stability
3) Place another lid side repeating steps 1-2, connect the two sides with a piece of tape
4) Repeat steps 1-3 until each lid side has been added to the lid top
Decorating the Lid 2.0
1) With a newly gained lid shape, cut up different pieces of string/yarn and tape the edges together
2) In the middle of the lid place tape that has been rolled up so things can stick on both sides
3) In the middle of the tape place the newly taped string (press down gently)
4) With another index card write a sweet message such as "Happy Birthday" and place it over the double-sided tape to hide it
Assembling the Box
1) Fill the box with the desired gift and add wrapping paper
2) Close the lids and tape the top down with an "x" shape in the middle of the box
3) Place the newly made lid on top
Present the Gift!
Congratulation all that hard work paid off and you now have a DIY gift box!
