DIY Giant Polaroid Picture Frame

This week on Woodbrew we made a giant polaroid picture frame! This picture frame is a perfect way to share those "polaroid moments" on a larger scale. Super excited to switch out pictures as we go on adventures, or one from the Storyblocks library as inspiration for a future adventure.

MATERIALS: (affiliate links)

• 1/4" plywood project panel
• Poster Board16x20 Photo
• Sawtooth Picture Frame Hanger
• White Paint
• Painters Tape
• Spray Glue

You will need a piece of 1/4" plywood that measures 22.5" x 19". Firstly cut this rectangle out using a table saw, circular saw, handsaw, or jig saw. (affiliate links)

Next you will need to cut a 16" x 15.5" (WxH) hole in the plywood. Measure 1.5" from the top and two sides to center the hole. You should have a 5.5" space at the bottom. Its important to make the vertical side 15.5" so that a 16x20 photo will work in the frame without falling out. Draw these lines on the plywood. Add painters tape over these lines and re draw the lines on top if necessary. The painters tape will reduce tear out when cutting the hole. Again use either a table saw, circular saw, handsaw, or jig saw to cut the opening.

Go ahead and apply a coat of white paint to the front side of the frame. Be sure to coat all the edges as well.

We need a way to attach the photo to the frame. We decided to go this pouch way because we wanted to be able to easily slide new photos in. First mask off 1/2" around the opening, on the backside, of the hole with painters tape. We will be applying glue in the next step and don't want any to get on this area. The 1/2" will give a place for the photo slide in. Completely cover the top of the frame in painters tape to allow for a photo to be inserted. Next apply spray glue to the exposed areas of the frame. Take the tape off the frame and stick the board down to a piece of poster board. Trim off the excess poster board around the edges.

We need a way to hang our polaroid picture. We decided to use these sawtooth frame hangers (affiliate link). Center the hanger and nail it in place.

Finally print out your favorite photo in a 16x20 format. You can get this format printed for super cheap at walmart, walgreens, and many others. You'll need to cut the photo down to 16x17. This will allow for overhang and let the picture be secure when you slide it into place. Lastly slide the photo in and hang it somewhere cool!
