DIY Foldable Emergency Shelter

I made a Foldable Emergency Shelter. This shelter is for people after a crisis, whether it be a tornado, earth quake, or tsunami. This shelter is supposed to provide a temporary place to live until you re-locate.

To create a model of the Foldable Emergency Shelter, you will need

1. Carboard
2. Any form of strong tape
3. Ruler or measuring tape
4. Scissors or a box cutter
5. Pencil

First I Like to Make an outline of What I Am Going to Make in Tinker CAD. In tinker cad, first, add a cube.

Next, I flatten it to cardboard thickness.

Then, I copy, paste, and move the squares to make a flattened box. (The extra square at the top will be the roof of the shelter)

Now, I use the skribble tool to make the outline of the door.

Then, I reshape it to be more doorlike and drag it to where I want the door to be. (Make sure not to put the door near where the ground will be, put it a little higher. This will prevent rain on the floor to come in)

Finally, you and I have finished the sketch! This model will be the shelter unfolded.

First, measure out 5 inches on a ruler.

Next, draw a 5 by 5 inch square on your cardboard.

Now, add 5 by 5 inch squares on your carboard to make it look like the blueprint we made in Tinker CAD.

Then, cut the outline of your shelter from the cardboard. If you cardboard rips, use duct tape to repair it.

Now, cut out a door, just like in Tinker CAD make sure to put it slightly above the ground to prevent rain from coming in.

If the card board you are using has weird bumps or anything that you don't want on it, you can just peel or cut it off.

Now, fold it!

Because this is supposed to be a replica of a full scale carboard shelter, the final (optional) touch is to put a pretend tarp over it. The tarp will keep rain and snow out of it.

If you were making this in real life at a full scale (4-5 Ft by 4-5 Ft), the best area to put the shelter would be on an elevated place shaped like a pyramid, like a hill. This would make all the rain wash away from the shelter.

If you wanted to build this in a real scenario, at full scale (4-5 Ft by 4-5 Ft by 4-5Ft), you could absolutely do it! If you use strong tape, precise folds, and strong cardboard you could definitely pull it off.
