DIY Fog Chiller - for Longer Lasting Low Laying Fog - Halloween Decor With NO DRY ICE
Fog is one of the best effects you can add to your Halloween display, but generally the fog just dissipates in the air and disappears quickly. This guide will show you how to build a simple fog chiller that will help you keep the fog on the ground for a super spooky effect!
Start by cutting 2 3-3/4" holes in the cooler. One at the very bottom corner of one side and another on the opposite side about 2" from the top. Also cut the PVC pipe into 4 each of 2", 4", and 4-1/2" pieces.
Assemble the PVC pieces as shown (use the 4" piece as the legs). Taper the legs in slightly so the frame assembly rests on the bottom of the cooler. Glue is not necessary.
Fold the grill topper so it is slightly larger than the frame. Make sure it will fit on the frame inside the cooler. Use zip ties to secure the grill topper to the frame.
Cut the 4" flexible foil duct in tow pieces, both pieces should be at least 48" long. Thread about 1" of one of the pieces into the lower hole in the cooler and glue into place using gorilla glue or caulk (you want a good seal here) This will be the exit for the fog.
Place the PVC frame with mesh in the cooler. Thread about 12" of the other piece of flexible foil duct into the upper hole and glue into place.
To Use
Fill the top half of the cooler with regular ice, stopping about 1" from the top. Assure to not cover the opening of the upper duct by pointing it straight up and out of the ice. Put the lid on the cooler and seal with masking tape to prevent fog from leaking out.
Point your Fog Machine at the outside opening of the Entry (top) duct, leaving about 3-4" of space between the duct and the fog machine. Extend the Exit (bottom) duct and place it wherever you want the fog to appear. Prep your fog machine with Fog Machine Cleaning Solution, fill it with Fog Juice, turn it on and that's it. Long lasting ground fog without the hassle of dry ice!
