After seeing the Hacksmith making a boring company style flamethrower on youtube. I wanted to make one myself, because why not? It is really not that difficult to make. On this page I will show you how I made my flamethrower. I hope you like reading about this project as much as I liked to make it.

Supplies

Here is a list of the components that I used to build this flamethrower.

The Design

The design is based on an HK-416 assault rifle. I got the design from Grabcad, thanks to Abdülselam Kaplan for providing the cad files. You could use any kind of rifle or object, keep in mind that it is harder to fit all components in a smaller rifle than in a bigger one.

Creating the Rifle

I chose to make my rifle out of wood, you could also buy a nerf gun or waterpistol. I printed out the drawings (1:1) from fusion 360. Then I cut them out to make templates. I placed the template on the wood and traced around it with a pencil to get the shape of the rifle on the wood. After this I used a jigsaw to cut the rifle, and repeated this step one more time so that I had two identical pieces.

I then screwed the two pieces together which enabled me to sand away the cutting mistakes. Once both pieces alligned nicely I took them apart once again. To make the components fit in rifle, I first determined the layout. After this I used a router to remove the wood where the components had to go.

The original rifle has a round stock I wanted to replicate this but making a perfect round cilinder without a lathe is quite difficult. So I ended up using a pvc pipe of 45mm instead, I made wooden inserts for both sides of the pvc tube. The black part is made of wood. The stock is glued to the leftside of the rifle, the M8 threaded rod is to reinforce this bond and give a little bit more support.

I wanted to add an extra feature to the rifle and make the magazine detachable. I also needed space to mount the battery so I decided to mount the battery inside the magzine. I decided to 3D print this magazine because making it out of wood would have taken a lot of time. I

How Does It Work?

The 2S Lipo battery provides the power to the two splitting connectors which are marked with a (-) and (+). When the trigger is pulled it pushes on the button closing the electronic circuit. By doing so the solonoid valve opens and gas can flow from the gas bottle to the exhaust. There is an extra button installed which controls the high voltage generator. The high voltage generator operates at max 6v, so an BEC was needed to transform the 8V from the battery to 5V.

Painting the Body

I decided to give the body a fire look with a combination of red, black, white and yellow paint. In my opinion it looks really nice. As decoration I added the letter ''Burn Baby Burn'', I used a laser cutter to cut these letters out of 3mm MDF.
