DIY Finger Jingles
Jingles_info.jpg

Add percussion to your finger drumming using DIY Finger Jingles !! This is an handy accessories if you play the Canjo box drum, or just like to drum on a hallow box, to jam with friends who play the guitar.

So collect a couple of beer/Coca Cola bottles caps and fire up your 3D printer! And follow the steps in the ible below to make your own Finger Jingle ring.

Since the Finger Jingle Ring is made using 3D printed plastic material called PLA , the jingle ring is light weight and comfortably fits on Index finger as shown in the picture and video above. And the semi-transparent 3D printed base covers the jingles without affecting the sound, which prevent your fingers from cuts and bruises while wearing the ring.

In addition,I would also like to give a shout out to my friend Krishanu Banerjee, who is an amateur tabla player for suggestions during the design process of the 3D Printed parts and putting the Finger jingles through a test, and helping out with the video above.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper clip to hold the caps together
  • 3D printed base and the Lid for the ring, pick up the STL files from Step 2 and Step 3.

Download the 3D printing software that you printer supports, in my case I am using the Printrbot Simple Metal which use Repetier-Host as a software to

  • Slice the STL files attached, which basically means cutting the part into various layers
  • And send commands to the 3D printer while printing

In my case I am using the following filament HATCHBOX 1.75mm Transparent white PLA

Download the FingerJingleBase.stl file attached and using your printer software

  • Slice the file, this should take about 45-50 seconds
  • And printing the file should take about 45-50 mins and is dependent on your printer settings.

Once the printing of the base is complete , change the filament on your printer ,in my case I am using

HATCHBOX 1.75mm Orange PLA

Download the RingLid_Jingle.stl file attached and using your printer software

  • Slice the file, this should take about 14-15 seconds
  • And printing the file should take about 35-40 mins and is dependent on your printer settings.

Now using a set of Pliers as shown in the picture above, flatten the edges of both the bottle caps.

Once the caps are flat use a nail and hammer to make a hole in the center of the cap.

Note: If you are doing this inside your house on the floor, use a piece of cloth to prevent damaging the floor as shown in the picture above.

Securing the Caps to the Lid Using Paper Clips

Bend the paper clip, and thread it through the Base of the 3D printed part as shown in the first two pictures above.

Cut of the end of the paper clip if you feel it is too long.

Add the caps through the paper clip so that the bottom of the caps are facing each other as shown in the picture above.

Use a set of pliers to bed the paper clip towards the bottle cap.

Now run a quick test by placing the orange lid on top of the base, adjust the paper clip using a set of pliers if you are not happy with the sound.

Use Super Glue to Secure Base to the Lid
