This is a fun DIY fashion sewing project! Great gift for the holidays! This tutorial walks you through the steps on how to make a fanny pack.

Fabric: 1 yard (canvas, denim, or twill)

Plastic buckle: 1

Slide adjuster: 1

Webbing: 2 yards

Zipper: 12 inch (1) 22 inch (1)

Cord: .5 yard or less (optional for zipper pulls)

Cutting Pattern Panels

Front Zipper Panel: 1

Back Panel: 1 outer layer and 1 for divider

Strap Panel: 4

Front Bottom Panel: 1

Front Panel Zipper Part 1

-Grab 12 inch zipper and Front Bottom Panel.

-Place the right sides together on straight edge.

-Sew with zipper foot for best results.

-After sewing,. fold seam allowance front bottom panel and add top stitch.

Front Panel Zipper Part 1

-Grab Front Top Zipper Panel

-Fold in half with wrong sides together.

-Place on opposite side of 12 inch zipper with right sides together.

-Grab Front Top Panel. Place directly over Front Top Zipper Panel with right sides together.

-Stitch with zipper foot.

-After stitching. Fold the Front Top Zipper Panel and Front Top Panel up and add a top stitch.

Securing Zipper Panel

-Pull zipper train to the inside of the panel.

-Add stitch to Front Top Zipper Panel across the zipper track. Go slow to avoid breaking a needle.

-This is going to secure the zipper panel down.

Back Panel Divider

-Grab the Back Panel (Divider fabric).

-Place it on the back of the complete front pocket panel.

-Stitch around the outside edge as close as you can to the edge.

Side Zipper Part 1

-Grab Side Zipper Panel and 22 inch zipper.

-Place the right sides together and stitch with zipper presser foot.

-After sewing. Fold Side Zipper Panel flat and add top stitch.

Side Zipper Part 2

-Grab the second Side Zipper Panel.

-Place on the opposite side of zipper. Lining up both Side Zipper Panels.

-Stitch with zipper presser foot.

-After sewing. Fold Side Zipper Panel flat and add top stitch.

Side Bottom Panel

-Grab the Side Bottom Panel.

-Place on completed Side Zipper Panel with right sides together.

-Sew at .25 inch seam allowance.

-Take the other side of Side Bottom Panel and sew it to the opposite end of Side Zipper Panel.

-Sew at .25 inch seam allowance.

-After sewing. Snip zipper ends to match seam allowance length.

Bias Tape Raw Edge

-Add bias tape to the raw edge were the zipper, Side Bottom Panel, and Side Zipper Panel meet.

-You can use premade bias tape or make your own. I am using a double fold bias tape binder. I find it to be the most efficient way to add bias tape to raw edges. I really like to use it on the inside seams. Makes the end bag look more professional.

Top Stitching Side Panel

-Fold the bias taped seam allowance towards the Side Bottom Panel and add a top stitch.

-Repeat for the opposite side.

Strap Panels

-Grab 2 Strap Panels and 1 yard of webbing.

-Place the right sides together with webbing sandwiched in between sorter straight end.

-Stitch side and top edge.

-Flip Right sides and add top stitch around outside edge.

-Repeat process for other Strap Panels.

Adding Strap Panels

-Grab Back Panel and Strap Panels.

-Line the Strap Panels up on the center side of the Back Panel.

-Stitch as close as you can to the edge of the Back Panel.

-This stitch it to hold the Strap Panels is position for easier assembly.

Adding Webbing Ends

-Cut (2) 2 inch webbing strips.

-Fold webbing in half.

-Place webbing on zipper ends. covering Front Top Zipper Panel.

-Stitch as close as you can to the edge.

-Repeat for opposite side.

Assembly Part 1

-Mark the center of Front Top Zipper Panel and Side Bottom Panels.

-Line up the centers with the complete Front Panel.

-It is best to mark the center of the edges for all panels. This will give you the most accurate results.

-Pin the Front Top Zipper Panel and Side Bottom Panel to the Front Panel.

-Stitch around outside edge at .25inch seam allowance.

-After sewing. Snip the zipper ends to match seam allowance.

Assembly Part 2

-Grab Back Panel with Strap Panels.

-Line up with Front Top Zipper Panel and Side Bottom Panels.

-Make sure you place the webbing on the inside of the bag before sewing.

-Pin panels together.

-Sew around outside edge at .25 inch seam allowance.

Bias Tape Inside Seams

-Add bias tape to the inside seams.

-This will add over all strength to the fanny pack.

-When done flip the right side out.

Adding Buckle Part 1

-Add female end of buckle to one side of webbing.

-Feed webbing through back opening of buckle.

-Fold webbing over to hide raw edge.

-Stitch webbing down.

Adding Buckle Part 2

-Add slide adjuster to opposite webbing end.

-Grab male buckle end.

-Feed webbing though buckle from front to back opening.

-Pull webbing back though slide adjuster from front to back opening.

-Fold webbing end over and stitch down. This will prevent the webbing from sliding back though the slide adjuster.

Final Touches

-Use cord or premade zipper pulls.

-Add to zipper for the final touch. This really adds a lot to the bag and makes it look more professional.

-Add to both zippers.
