Fall DIY: Rustic wall Art

I was over my Sister's house a few weeks ago, and my brother in law, had replaced some old fence boards. So I took the old boards and made this Fall sign. I have also included the video.

Note that this project is from all reclaimed wood, from pallets and old fence boards.

You will need the following:

Old fence boards and pallet boards

Drill and small drill bit

1 1/4" long wood screws

Titebond Wood Glue

Clamps

Triangle style Hangers with 3/8" long screws

Stencils

Pencil

Black Marker

Black Craft paint and small brush

Assorted colors of Spray paint for Pumpkin and leaves

paper and printer for patterns

Scroll saw or Jigsaw

Tape Measure

Tablesaw

Cut Fence Boards

I then sorted out my old fence boards, picked the best ones and cut them to lenght, mine was 25" long.

Attach Together

I then measured the width of the boards together, took that measurement, minus 1" and cut some old scrap pieces that length. Attached them with glue and screws. First drilling pilot holes.

Make Patterns

I then needed some patterns, so I searched the Internet and found some outlines of a Pumpkin and Leaves. Printed them out to the sizes that I needed. I then attached them to a piece of hardboard to use as a pattern.

Glue Up Pallet Boards

I edged off some old pallet boards and glue them together using Titebond glue.

Cutout Patterns

I use a Scroll saw and a Jigsaw to cutout the patterns, from glued up old pallet boards.

Paint

Paint your Cutouts, and let them dry before continuing. I used Orange for the Pumpkin and various colors for the Leaves.

Layout

Now layout your pieces the way you want it to look. Then use the stencils and layout the lettering, I first use a pencil for the stencils, but then change to a Black Marker, just filled in the stencils. I then used Black craft paint, painted over the lettering.

Glue Cutouts

Now that we have the Cutouts all painted up, apply Titebond type 3 glue to the back of each piece and use clamps to hold while they dry. I let my glue dry overnight.

Attached Hardware

I flipped the sign over and screwed a Triangle style hanger in the center.

Enjoy

Now that your piece is finished, hang up and enjoy. This makes a great Fall decoration, you could use different patterns for other Season's. Thanks for checking out my Instructable.

Remember that this is made entirely from reclaimed wood.
