DIY Exfoliating Shampoo
This exfoliating Shampoo is a great addition to any haircare routine. It should not be a daily shampoo as exfoliating everyday will damage the healthy cells, but is great once or twice a week.
Ingredients
The ingredients for this shampoo are pretty simple and can be found at most grocery stores. The only ingredient I needed to get from a specific place was the Essential Oils and that is because I choose to use Young Living oils but you may choose differently.
**One thing I will say about the essential oils is to please use a high quality oil, the ones available at major retailers are not high quality and should not be used on the skin. Do your research before you choose an oil to use, they are not all created equal. If you would like to know why I chose Young Living or are interested in trying them for yourself, please message me and I will be happy to help.**
Ingredient List:
Baking Soda
Unscented Castile Oil soap (I like Dr Bronner's baby soap)
Aloe Vera Gel (make sure you do not get the juice)
Distilled Water
Essential Oils (I used Cedarwood, Lemongrass, and Thyme. This is a personal preference but cedarwood is good for hair)
A glass or PET plastic bottle (Some essential oils can breakdown non-PET plastics)
How Much Do I Add?
I did not add quantities because it really depends on the size of the bottle you use. I basically layer my ingredients in the bottle before mixing.
My preference is fill the bottle 1/3 with Aloe Vera Gel. Add 4 heaping tablespoons of baking soda (use less if you don't want it to be as scratchy). Fill with Castile Oil Soap till you have approximately 1/3 of open space in the bottle. Add your Essential Oils (I use 20 drops of Cedarwood and 5 drops of each the Thyme and Lemongrass). Fill with Distilled Water leaving just enough space at the top so when you shake the bottle it will mix.
Cap the bottle and shake gently. This mixture will separate a bit as it sits, so you want to shake it before each use. This is not an everyday shampoo, over exfoliating can damage the scalp. I have used it twice a week for months and love it.
If you come up with a great combination please leave a comment so I can try it out.
Thank you and Enjoy!!
