DIY: Easy Felt Holly

Hey, y'all! It's been a hot minute since the last DIY! It's been a really strange and stressful year and I hope y'all are hanging in there, staying safe and healthy, and doing whatever you can to get through these strange times. I know this tutorial is low-key late, and I'm sorry. But it comes together quickly, so let's get started!

I got the idea for this DIY when I was roaming around the dollar store. Some holly made from some metallic green paperboard and bright red plastic caught my eye, and I thought to myself, "Hey! I can make some better more durable holly from felt!", and here we are.

For this DIY, you'll need:

-Green and red felt

-Berry and leaf templates

-Pipe cleaners

-Tacky Glue

-Embroidery and hand sewing needles

-Red and green embroidery floss

(I'm using DMC 817 [Dark coral red] and DMC 699 [Deep grass green])

-Hot glue gun

-Sharpie pen

-Pins

-Stuffing

-Green sewing thread

Ahem.

Grab your templates, your felt, your pen, your pins, and your scissors. Trace around them onto your felt, pin, then cut them out. You should have 6 berries and 6 leaves.

Round and round we go! Where we stop, nobody knows! ;)

Now grab your berries and sew around the edges using the running stitch. Add a little bit of stuffing and pull it as tightly as you can, then tie it off. Repeat this to make three berries.

Now grab your leaves and your Sharpie pen. Draw a line down the center of the leaves and embroider over it using the running stitch. If you're not familiar with the running stitch, new to embroidery, or you've just forgotten how to do the running stitch, I've got your back. :) Just check out my video below.

Now grab your pipe cleaner and cut pieces to fit inside your leaves. Mine were about 2 and a half inches long. Glue them on one of your leaves and then glue the other one on top. You should have a pipe cleaner and leaf
"sandwich". Now grab your needle and thread and sew all around the outside of your leaves. Finally, sew them together. You should have a stretched out "Y".

Haha. Shove over, basics, cos berries are in town! ;)

Now grab a scrap of your red felt and cut a piece that fits on the back of your berries. Glue it on carefully, then glue them onto your leaves and enjoy!
