DIY Drill Press Machine. I've Been Dying to Have a Drill Press and Finally Made It!

I've been dying to have a drill press and finally made it!

It's a 5 Amp, 36" height machine that should work fine for any project in the future.

Supplies

Tools

1. Table saw

2. Jigsaw

3. Router

4. Drill Machine

5. Screwdriver

6. Glue & screws

7. Epoxy putty

Main material

1. A birch plywood 1200*600*15mm

2. DIY gear and rack

3. 2 Linear Motion Rods + 4 linear bearings

4. 3 flange couplings

5. 2 springs + 4 hooks

6. A pair of 25CM slide rails

7. M8 Tooth bar + Ball Knob 3 set

8. Plywood 8mm a little

9. M8 knob + M8 stainless steel screw 4 set

10. Aluminum T-Track 3/4

Gear and Rack

Generally, Many YouTubers made drilling machines mostly use a long rod to press down to drive.

I want to challenge the transmission with gears.

In this video, I will show you how to design gear from an internet website and make wood gear.

Pillar

3-1.jpg

For the main structure of the drilling machine, I choose 15mm birch plywood and make it into an H shape.

I installed two drawer slides in the front and mill 8mm width grooves on both sides to provide the movement of the lifting platform.

Base

4-1.jpg

The base is made of two 2x4 wooden strips and a piece of plywood.

then make a small box to cover it to look good, and can be a storage.

Lifting Platform

The lifting platform is 15mm birch plywood too, the front is fixed to the drawer slides, and the two sides are locked with 4 sets of M8 hexagonal bolts and hand-turned nuts

Electric Drill Holder

Make a hole with a diameter of 43mm, then cut it in half, and secure it with screws.

In the step, I made it too loose, so I just cut it all, repair it with screws, and glue 8mm plywood under it.

In addition, I put a hex nut on the electric drill with epoxy putty, used for fine-tuning and providing vertical support

Handle

I use a wooden block to make a hexagonal column shape, and then glue a triangular

wooden block with M8 four-prong tee nuts

(it is better to use a pre-embedded insert nut ) and then

lock it into the tooth bar and the ball knob

Depth Stop

I secure the aluminum t-track on the left side of the pillar and make a runner with plywood.

connect the electric drill holder and the runner with an acrylic board and screws.

then I can set up the limit of depth by knob

Fine-tuning

Adjusting the drill bit and the lifting platform to 90 degrees is the most important step.

At this time, the nut fixed on the tail of the electric drill can play a role.

First, put the upper cover, start to adjust 90 degrees,

and then put the four-prong tee nuts and secured them with screws.

My experience

DIY can get priceless experience and a sense of accomplishment, which cannot be replaced by buying ready-made tools.

Enjoy DIY fun :)
