DIY Dremel Sanding Bands

If you're like me, & you love your dremel... And you probably love how easy it is to do detailed sanding when needed....

If you're like me, & you love your dremel, but hate to have to run out to the hardware store in the middle of a project to restock on Dremel Sanding Bands..... Then read on, as I've found a DIY solution to restocking your sanding band needs.

Supplies Needed

  • Sanding Paper, any grit will work, (60, 80, 120, 220, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, etc.){Note 1000+grit sandpaper you can find at local auto supply stores}
  • Scissors (Heavy Duty if cutting 60 or 80 grit)
  • Dremel Sanding Band attachment
  • Dremel Torque Wrench
  • Super Glue (I used Dollar Store variety)
  • Marker

Cut Your Sand Paper Into Strips

Use the Dremel Sanding Band attachment as a guide

Cut strips about 5 inches long

After cutting, taper the edges on one side of sand paper strips

Roll & Glue

Roll the sand paper over the sanding band.

Allow over lap, then add small amount of glue to sand paper in center.

Roll remaining sand paper around sanding band, adding small amounts of super glue every 1/2inch or so.

{Note: Add super glue sparingly, avoid gluing sand paper directly to sanding band.}

Once you've glued down remaining end, press the sanding band against a hard surface(work bench) for 20 to 30 seconds allowing super glue to bond to sand paper.

To remove sanding paper band after glued, use same method to remove store bought sanding bands...

Enjoy, and try experimenting with different sanding grits...
