DIY Custom Wooden Gift Box | Laser Cut, Storage

Today, I'm sharing a custom wooden gift box that's perfect for storing small treasures, jewelry, or even as a personalized present for loved ones. This box features a simple rectangular design, hollow patterns and a touch of color to make it pop. Using laser-cut plywood, some paint, and basic assembly, you'll have a beautiful, functional gift box in no time. It's customizable, eco-friendly, and adds a handmade charm to any occasion!
Supplies
Materials:
- 3mm thickness plywood(45*45cm)
- Wood glue
- Acrylic paint
- Sandpaper (optional, for smoothing edges)
Equipment:
- 20W NEJE Laser Cutter
- Software: Lightburn
Upload the Design File

Start by downloading a custom gift box file. Upload it into Lightburn, ensuring it fits within your machine working area. The design should include the box base, sides.

Laser Cutting

Place your 3mm plywood sheet securely in the laser cutter. Align the design file precisely on the material. Set the parameters for cutting: Speed: 450mm/min, Power: 90%, Air Assist: On.
Run the job to cut out all pieces—the base, four side walls, and the lid. If your machine's work area is smaller, divide the file into multiple passes to avoid errors.
Coloring

Once cut, lightly sand any rough edges with sandpaper for a smooth finish. Paint the pieces before assembly to keep things neat: Apply a base coat of natural black wood stain or light color to the exterior. Let everything dry completely (about 1-2 hours) to prevent smudges during handling.
Assembling

Begin by gluing the side walls to the base, forming a sturdy rectangular structure—ensure the grooves for the sliding lid align perfectly. Use wood glue sparingly on joints for a clean look, and clamp lightly while drying for about 30 minutes. This creates a seamless, functional box ready for gifting.
