DIY Crayon Bulbs

DIY: Crayon Ornaments

Instead of buying an ornament to mark your holiday festivities this year, try making one! Not only is it the perfect DIY for a secret Santa exchange, but you can also claim creative bragging rights.

For this project, you'll need:

  • 1 Blow Dryer
  • Pack of Crayons
  • Set of Clear Bulbs
  • Pliers (Highly recommended as this project gets HOT)

Prep Your Bulbs

Prep all your glass ornaments by removing their tops. Set the tops aside for later.

Unwrap Crayons

After prepping your bulbs, you must also prep your crayons. Remove the labels from all your crayons. Note: You do not need to use the Crayola brand, but we have found that it does get the best results.

Break Crayons

Once labels are removed, break your crayons into pieces. The smaller the better. Place crayon pieces in bulbs. Be careful on the colors you choose as some will eventually mix to form new colors. i.e. Blue and yellow crayons will make a green bulb.

Blow Dry

Once you have your bulbs filled with crayon pieces, take your pliers and blow dry the bulb. Rotate your bulb to spread your colors. Let cool 60 seconds to 1 minute before reinserting bulb top.
