Here’s what you’ll need:
Old T-shirt
Scissors

Making the Handles:
After gathering the supplies you start by cutting the neckline for the opening of the bag.
This shirt has a “V” neckline, so I just cut the back of the shirt to match the front and you have the handles of the bag already made. A regular t-shirt can be cut wherever you choose, but you don’t want to cut the opening too big, you want to leave the handles large enough so that they will be stable.
If you choose to use a shirt with sleeves, you’ll want to cut the sleeves off at the seam.
Cutting the Strips:
The next step is to even up the bottom of the shirt.
Cut strips at the bottom of the shirt 1/4 to 3/8 inch wide and at least 2 ½ inches long.
On a previous project, I used a regular t-shirt and made the strips 5 inches long so it made a cool longer fringe at the bottom of the bag.
Tying the Strips:
The next step is to tie off the strips, the front strips to the back the strips with a square not.
And you’re done!
How to Tie a Square Knot
Square Knot
Take one end of your rope in your left hand , and the other end of the rope in your right hand.
Place right end over left end.Continue with the right end by wrapping it around the left rope.
Re-cross ends, wrapping right end around left and up through loop.
Tighten knot.Loose ends and main parts will be parallel to each other.
Here's What It Looks Like
You can use the bag with the fringe on the inside or the outside to your preference.
When you’re done using the bag, just put it into your purse for the next trip to the store!
When you have made your own Up-Cycled Grocery Bag, send me a pic and I'll post it on the end of my next video tutorial showing off the viewers masterpieces!
