DIY Christmas Icicle Mini Lights

DSC00952.JPG
This is a fun, easy and cheap holiday craft. Best for adults, since it uses a hot glue gun.
After having a hard time finding an affordable string of icicle mini lights I decided to make my own. All items were available at my local dollar store and cost me a total of $6, not including the glue gun and glue sticks. Comparatively my local department stores sell this string of lights for $20 and it only included 16 lights... ours will have 50!

Time: 30 mins - 1 hour

Materials:
1 string of mini lights, any kind. 50 lights
50 clear plastic icicle ornaments. The flater kind work best. ( I got a 10 pack for $1) Multiple sizes look best.
craft glue gun
3 glue sticks
pair of wire cutters

Count out your icicle ornaments, you should have one ornament per light. Alternatively you can use any kind of clear ornament, like candies or snowflakes. Now cut off the loop at the end with your wire cutters. You can file down the ends if you like, but it is not necessary.

Lay out string of mini lights and twist them until they all lay in the same direction, pointing down. Now lay out your icicles. Arrange them randomly, or count out about 4 small then 1 big.

Add a glob of glue to the top of your mini light, not the bulb. Then press the icicle down, making sure the top of the ornament goes up to the top of the wire and covers the entire light. (Obviously one side of the string will look best.) Alternatively you can add glue to the icicles and place it under the mini light. Hold the two together for 30 sec, then move on to the next light... and the next... and the next...until you're done.

Now string up your lights, being careful to put the most visible side at the front. Plug 'em in, stand back and admire your awesome talent! Good job! That was pretty easy, right? Spread some holiday cheer and make a set for a friend! :)
