Bokeh is a way to capture the lights which have low intensity like the decoration lights for Christmas trees or the lights from far away to make a smooth background. Bokeh tends to appear in the areas of an image that remains outside the focal region. Because of this the most common technique used to add it is a shallow depth of field created through a wide open aperture. Basically, viewing the photos are taken at night, we often see the bright spots sparkling behind round looks very beautiful, right?
And today, i would like to share a tip to take a Bokeh shoot with your favorite shape. What a unique!

MATERIALS:

a sheet of black paperboard

scissors

tape

craft knife

pencil

Fast lens

****** WARNING******

Using this Lens isn't enough for professional photography such as big events or weddings.

Making Lens Hood

Use scissor to cut the long strip of the black paper board which is about 1 inch in width (or base on your lens) and stick two edges of the trip by tape. That's it. Now you are ready to use this new lens hood.

Making Hood Cap

Next, use pencil to draw a circle that's larger than the lens' circumference and cut it out to make a cap for your lens hood. Then it's ready for you to design your own style in the next step.

Creating Your Design and Improving It

It's time for your creativeness. Draw everything you like in the center of the circle such as clover, plane, heart ... After that, use craft knife to make the shape you chose. Then stick the hood and cap together stably by tape.
* Be careful when using the craft knife. If you push it too hard or forget to close it after using, it can damage yourself and people around.

Installation

Manual Settings

However, the main point to have the best Bokeh photos still depends on your photographic abilities. I will suggest you guys some useful manual settings for your camera:

  1. Switch to aperture priority shooting mode (AV) or if you are more professional, you can choose manual mode (M)
  2. Set the aperture of the lens to the smallest value (largest aperture). The larger the aperture is, the more amazing the output looks. Therefore, if you have the Fix lens which has the aperture about 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 , your photos would have the surprised Bokeh effect.

Enjoy
