How to use an old DVD player to make a DIY bench power supply very easy and useful for hobby electronic fans that cant affords a professional adjustable power supply.

This project is very simple and modular that require no investment if you have or can buy for less then 5$ the main component: The dvd player.

In order to build this simple power supply, you will need to dismantle the DVD player and recover the power supply which is normally situated next to the main cable or connected to it.Normally it should be looking like the picture above. You will have to find the output pins and to make some sort of case for your electronic project.

For this project, i did use an empty nail polisher bottle like the nice purple above. You can make or use whatever you have on hand don't forget to make some ventilation holes.

A power supply is an electrical device that supplies electric power to an electrical load. The primary function of a power supply is to convert electric current from a source to the correct voltage, current, and frequency to power the load. As a result, power supplies are sometimes referred to as electric power converters.
Some power supplies are separate standalone pieces of equipment, while others are built into the load appliances that they power.

This power supply has two outputs that can use: 14-15v and 4-4.5v we can add a buck converter or a led voltage display but in order to keep it cheap we will no use them in this project.

In order to keep this project as recycling friendly as possible, we will use the audio connectors for our voltage output from the DVD player and we will use just two of the set, and possibly the small cables and the switch if it has one.Can be very useful and handy and we reuse the most components from our old electronic device.

We have now all the components now it's up to you for making a box for this cheap power supply

In this project, i used for the case/box of the power supply this empty plastic bottle. Now it just remains to insert all the components inside and mount the switch and the voltage output terminals and we are done.

First, we will use the metal from the back of the DVD that was holding all the components and we can use this to draw our future holes for the output and switch. We are nearly ready we have marked the holes make some drawing it's up to you just use your imagination

Power supplies are packaged in different ways and classified accordingly. A bench power supply is a stand-alone desktop unit used in applications such as circuit test and development. Open frame
power supplies have only a partial mechanical enclosure, sometimes consisting of only a mounting base; these are typically built into machinery or other equipment.
