DIY Alternator

Untitled-2.png

This is an open-source 3d printable alternator designed to harvest energy from drainpipes however making the alternator is a great way to learn about alternator design, 3d printing and faradays law.

Supplies

Steel rod (We used 8mm)

Bearings(We used the standard 22mm ones)

Iron Ferrite (Optional to improve efficiency)

Magnets (We used 3mm by 2mm by 4mm fridge magnets)

Lots of 3d printed parts

Printing the Parts

Use the custom drill attachment bit, wind 4 coils, try and do this as tightly as possible.

Attach the Coils to the Stator

We used electric tape which worked :)

Glue in the Magnets

As you go round switch the polarity. Hot glue works.

Assemble the Alternator

Steel rod goes through the middle. On the rotors, you can use screws to attach them.

Enjoy Your Alternator!
