DIY AIR IONIZER With a Simple Voltage Muiltiplier (220V INPUT 7800V OUTPUT)
The amount of negative oxygen ions in the ambient air seems to affect the psychological and physical state of many people. The air in the mountains and near the sea contains relatively high numbers of negative ions compared to elsewhere and this is one of the reasons that you feel better in this type of environment. You can improve the air quality at home too, when using the ioniser described here.

Description
Units like this tend to generate a high DC voltage at very low current using a Walton Cockcroft voltage multiplier to step the mains voltage (220 to 240V here in the UK and Europe) to several thousand volts DC which is then applied to sharp needle points. The air at the needle points takes on a negative charge and is repelled from the unit into the room. It imparts it's charge onto pollutants in the room that then precipitate out to surrounding surfaces. The running costs of these units is extremely low. Literally a few pennies a year.
Schematic Diagram
A cascade, generating a high DC voltage from grid voltage, is simple, silent and has a far higher efficiency than the typical flyback converters.Unlike transformers, this method eliminates the requirement for the heavy core and the bulk of insulation. This is one of the first methods of making ionizer and was used in the eighties.
At the input of the circuit is installed a 0.1 A fuse . A needle with a sharp point is connected to the output. Here is where the ions are generated. It is also a good idea to connect a few high-voltage resistors between the output and the needle, so that the maximum current is reduced.
Never touch the opened device when it is energised. Also wait a while after switching off to allow the capacitors time to discharge.
All diodes are of type 1n4007 and the capacitors are polyester type with a minimum voltage of 400 volts. Their capacitance can range from 10 nanofarads up to 200 nanofarads. You can download schematic diagram at:
