Hello guys, let’s try to make a PVC motor using 1.5-inch pipe. We are making a DC motor inside a PVC hollow pipe; the working principle remains the same and here we are using the rotor and magnets from a toy motor. So, the idea is that instead of using metal covering we are using a PVC pipe.

Cutting Pipe

Here we have a 4-inch-long PVC pipe which Is enough to make this DC motor, which is cut into 2 pcs. of different length. The cutting method is very simple, a hot knife or blade can do the job perfectly.

Length of small one is 1.3 Inches and bigger one is of 2.7inch.

Making PVC Sheet

To make sheet of PVC, first cur the pipe vertically through hot knife and then using hot air gun we can spread the sheet. Now place a heavy linear weight upon it. Press a little bit and then release, your sheet is ready and I think it is the best alternative of any 3d printed sheet or project. By giving a little bit of heat we can give any shape to this sheet. Also this is cheapest method to make your projects looking good.

Making of Round Sheet

Now place the small pipe on sheet and make some markings like this.

The sheet is very thin, we can cut this using a scissor or blade. By the way, I found scissor helpful in this.

Making of Motor Shell:

After cutting all the pieces, just put them on each other and join together using super glue. Make a small hole in center of the round sheet.

Extracting Magnets, Brushes and Rotor:

Here I have a toy motor and you have to get some special things like, Rotor, brushes and magnets out of that.

Placing the Magnets Inside PVC:

Place the magnets in front of each other glue them properly, make sure that both the magnets are in front of each other, keeping the margin same. I am using 2 magnets, in the same way you may add two more to increase the torque.

Making Brushes for Motor:

Using the same round sheet, add small PVC brackets and then glue the brushes on this. Make sure the brushes are placed in center to make good contact with copper windings. Keep the rotor in center with the minimum margins from left and right.

Wiring:

Just solder two different/same color wires on the both end of brushes to supply or to get power from the motor.

PVC DC Motor:

Now close the outer round sheet covering and it is ready to use, supply this with a cell of 1.5 or 4volts. Place the rotor and then the back sheet, glue them properly.

Working:

My motor is taking amps on a voltage of 1.5 volts without load. Using this with some modified fan, the current consumption goes above amps on volts.

Experience:

My experience is very great with this, making a cool plastic covering out of a small PVC pipe is innovative and in future it the idea of cutting PVC, turning it into a sheet can eliminate the usage of 3d printers for small project makers. Although, you can paint using permanent marker which is a con. of this. So you should try this method, specially the hobbyists, who can’t afford the extra-ordinary 3d printers and PLA materials.
