Greetings Hero,

You probably are not worthily enough to be chosen to join a Lantern Corps, like me.

However, I do have a solution for you.

We are going to make our way to the Lantern Corps, by starting making what is most significant about the Lantern Corps.

The Ring.

Supplies

Link for other Lantern Corps Symbols : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4940183

Tools:

SLA 3D Printer (Resin 3D Printer) - (Recommended)

or FDM 3D Printer (kinds works to a certain degree, requires to be quite fine tuned)

Soldering Iron

Hot Glue Gun

Tweezers

Measuring device

String/paper

X-acto Knife

Materials:

ABS SLA Resin (recommended)

or normal SLA resin (what I am using)

5050 or 3528 SMD LED (color based on your Lantern Corps Choice)

28 awg wire

100ohm resistor

SMD Momentary Push Button

0.6mm solder wire

2036 battery holder (optional)

Super Glue

Sand Paper

Paint Brush

Acrylic Paint

Spray Paint (color based on your Lantern Corps)

1025 coin battery

General shape based on the reference images I have seen.

The Rings are activated/glows when the fist are clenched.

So the Ring will be activated when the fist is clenched.

Ring Versions

There are two versions of the ring, one with the button at the bottom of the ring and the other with the button at the side, but it requires a control ring. The assembly process is the exact same, doesn't matter which you go with.

Finger Size

Measure your finger size by getting a piece of string or paper and wrap it around your finger

Mark the paper/string and measure it.

You now have the circumference of your finger, use a online calculator to convert it to a diameter (in mm)

Control Ring

Get a cylinder of your finger size, and set it as a hole.

Select a second cylinder with a size that is slightly bigger 1-2mm bigger, then cut away the inner cylinder.

Print it out to test fit before you move to the ring.

You can use this as a control ring to push the side button of the ring.

Ring Body

Go to this TinkerCAD link: Ring Edit Link

Click on the Cylinder and change the size of your finger diameter(mm)

Select both the ring and the cylinder and group it together

Finally Export it as a STL

Step 2: Print the Model

Capture.PNG

Print out the the Control Ring first and make sure it fits

Once you are able to wear the Control Ring, print out the Ring Body.

Don't forget to mirror the Ring edited earlier when printing

Step 3: Check the Printed Parts

1629611437862.jpg

Make sure all the electric components fit in the ring.

Use a X-acto knife to make any cutting away pieces to make everything fit if needed.

Step 4: Soldering Time

Take your time, soldering the circuit for the ring will be slight bit challenging because you need to keep the solder joints as small as possible

Test to make sure the LED works before you start soldering!!

Note : The SMD LED, negative side is the bigger silver side and positive is the smaller side

Tip : Keep the wires longer then short

Tip : Use a helping hand to hold down the resistor and wire, but not the SMD LED

Cut a piece from the battery holder copper contacts to use for your own.

Tin each parts before connecting to each other. attach according to picture above.

Once you are done soldering the copper component, cover the exposed wire with a thin layer of hot glue to make it act as a thin insulation.

Or, if you do not want to use copper contacts, twist and tin the ends, be careful not to completely cover up the tined wire with glue.

Make sure to test the circuit before continuing to the next step.

Step 5 : Assembly

1629611437809.jpg
1629611437816.jpg
1629611437823.jpg

Start off by putting super glue into the slots for the wire first, follow by adding super glue to the LED slot.

Then press in the soldered electronic components

Use tweezer to position the copper contact as shown in the pictures, then apply super glue.

Test with battery, to make sure everything is still working properly.

Finally, add on the second side of the ring by applying super glue to the wire and LED slots.

Step 6: Finishing Overall Shape

1629769240340.jpg

Cover any gaps between the two rings with wood filler

Note: Use the X-acto knife to remove any wood filler from hindering the movement of the button. May cause the button area to break

Sand and fill with wood filler till smooth.

Step 7 : Painting Time!

1629769240333.jpg
1629783158996.jpg
1629783158999.jpg

First, cover up the battery slot up, so paint does not cover up the battery contacts.

Go crazy on you spray painting both the ring pieces.

Once the Ring Logo Cap has dried, use a brush to color in the color of your Lantern Corp of your choice.

Welcome to the Lantern Corp!

1629783158990.jpg

If you are using tinned connections instead of copper contacts, you may need to use a tweezer to position the wire to touch the wire properly.

Place in your 1025 coin battery and now you are a Lantern.
