Cycling Cleat Wall Hanger
I recently started to spin and decided to upgrade to cycling shoes, cleats, and pedals so that I can click in. I purchased and am now using shoes that have Shimano SPD style cleats and matching pedals. The one thing that I wanted was a place to put the shoes without feeling that they are out of reach. I decided to make wall hangers for the shoes that the cleats can sit in.
Supplies
To build these hanging clips I used the following materials.
- 3D Printed Wall Clip
- Sticky Hanging Strips (I opted for a single strip that I cut in half to make a short-wide strip)
- 6mmx2.5mm Round Neodymium Magnets
- Super Glue

Designing the Hanging Clip
I used Fusion360 to design the clip. I started by taking measurements of the cleat and then translating it to the width of the base, created the back of the hanger which will attach to the wall. Then I made a hole to attach the magnet to help keep the cleat in place. Lastly I extruded some wings to help hold the cleat from falling off. To finish the design I did a simple fillet on the hard edges.
To print the clip I found the best alignment is to place it on its side so the magnet opening resembles a water droplet.
Assembling the Clip
Assembly is straightforward. First add the magnet to the base of the clip with a small drop of super glue. I press the magnet in and then add a pop of glue into the small opening. Then we take the hanging strip and cut it in half. Then attach one piece of the hanging strip to the print (preferably the one that doesn't have the pull tab). Then velcro the pieces together and attach to a clean wall. Press and hold the strip in place for at least 30 seconds and then let it sit for at least an hour. At this point you can now place your shoes with SPD cleats to the hangers.
Removal
If in the future you decide to move your clips to a different location, I would suggest removing the clip (in my case it is simply pulling the velcro apart). Then pull down on the hanging strip tab to release it without damaging your walls.
