Cute Wooden Reindeer

Hi everyone, well it's almost Christmas time, and I thought this year I would make a Cute Wooden Reindeer. This is a simple project to make, either using a Scroll saw or Jig saw. Get your kids involved, have them come up with different designs. I have included the pdf of the files, so you can make your own, and also included the video I uploaded to Youtube.

What you will need:

Scroll Saw or Jig Saw

A piece of lumber about 48" long by 11 1/4" wide by 3/4" thick ( I used common lumber from Lowes)

A printer and paper

Spray adhesive

Sander or just hand sand

Titebond type II wood glue

Clamps

Craft Paint, Pink, Red and Black

Paint brushes

Stains, I used Ipswich Pine and Kona

Rags or Paper towels

Clear Lacquer

Kreg Pocket hole jig and screws

Print out the pdf file that I uploaded or draw your own pattern. Then trim the edges, because it will not print to the edge of the paper. Put these together like a puzzle and tape together.

Spray adhesive to the back of the pattern, let the glue dry for about 3 to 5 Minutes, then apply to the board.

Now we are ready to cut the patterns out, I used a Scroll Saw, but you could use a Jig saw.

Plus also cut out a rectangle 6" x 9" to use for the base.

Onced the pieces are cut, it's time to do some sanding. If you don't have a sander like the ones in the pictures, you will have to do some hand sanding.

Wipe the pieces off real good after sanding. Now is time to stain the big pieces. I used Ipswiched Pine stain from Minwax on the Deer body and base. Then used Rustoluem Kona stain for the Antlers.

Let the stain set for the appropriate times and wipe off the excess.

While the stain is drying, now it's time to do some painting on the small parts. I used Pink Craft paint for the Mouth, I used Red Craft paint for the nose and Black Craft paint for the feet.

After the stain has dried overnight, apply a couple coats of clear Lacquer.

Now attached the Antlers to the body as shown in the Pictures with a couple of 1 1/4" long screws. Then apply a Little Titebond type II wood glue to the small parts and clamp them together. Allow the glue to dry for a couple of hours before taking the clamps off.

Also glue on a couple of Googly eyes, as shown or paint some, your choice.

Note wipe any excess glue with a damp rag or towel.

Attached the bottom of the deer body to the Base using a couple of pocket screws.

After I finished the project, I decided to add a little white craft paint to the antlers for a snowy look. then I bought a cheap Dollar tree scarf and toy to add to the project. I hope everybody likes my Instructable, and remember if you have kids, get them involved in this, either on the design or painting.
