Cute Folk Dog Upcyle Paper Mache

This tutorial is dedicated to my dad to put on his porch to hide keys or anything he wanted to put in the dog. He always wanted a dog for security.

• Empty Laundry container
• Plastic Christmas ordainment
• Box cutter
• TP rolls Magazine or printer paper
• Small nails
• Masking tape
• Paint (Latex)
• Flat marbles (dollar store)
• Glue (white school glue)
• Button (found one on old sweater)
• Felt or cardboard acrylic spray gloss
• Plaster of Paris

This tutorial is dedicated to my dad to put on his porch to hide keys or anything he wanted to put in the dog. He always wanted a dog for security. He loves my gift I make him rather than me buying something expensive because I think its more meaningful.

Prepare everything before starting!

First tear the magazine paper into strips about an inch wide by 4 inches long.

Tear some small pieces also to use around the muzzle and neck

Gather an old bowl to mix the plaster and get some old towels because it get messy

2 - 3 coats of paper mache applied (Let 24 hours drying time in between coats)

1. Remove cap of Container and clean and let it dry

2. For the tail cut the handle at the top and bend it back a little. Add some wire or paper to the end to make it point back to look like a real tail.

3.Take the cut up magazine paper or copy paper and dip a strip at a time in your plaster mix. Smaller pieces of paper will be easier to paste down on the neck and head.

MAKING THE HEAD

I set it on top of a glass jar and used paper mache separately so it could screw back on.

1. Take the cap and carefully cut top out (Not the part that screws on the container

2. Take the plastic ordainment and tape it to the cap

DOGS MUZZLE
1. Take TP roll and cut the length of about 2 inch

2. Cut a slit about 1 inch

3. Then tape the TP roll to the dogs head and stuff with paper inside.

5. Take the cut up magazine paper or copy paper and dip a strip at a time in your plaster mix.

4. Let dry also for 24 hours.

Ears

1. Make 2 triangles out of felt or cardboard and round the corners to make them look like the shape of floppy dog ears.

2. Tape the wire flat to each ear and make a loop at the end.

3. Lightly attach the ears with the loop tape to the middle of the top of the head - not the back of the head with a small nail.

4. Secure it well because when you plaster them they will get heavy.

Legs
The legs were 2 strands of wire wound around themselves, bent and taped onto the body, and then many layers of papier mache and extra glue to make sure it was well attached.

1. Take wire and wrap with tape but bend the bottom so you can make the paws.

2. Then bend the ends and take small piece of TP roll to give them a 3-d look and tape around them.

3. Attach them to the body with tape and glue and let dry.

5. Take the cut up magazine paper or copy paper and dip a strip at a time in your plaster mix.

4. Let dry also for 24 hours.

DECORATING YOUR DOG

After you plaster the dog I used acrylic spray gloss and used about 3 coats. Then I painted him all blue with latex paint.

Eyes The eyes were marbles painted with acrylic paint

Nose I use a button to glue to the top of the muzzle

Tongue I used napkin and wrapped it in tape and used the plaster of paris to form it. Then used white glue to attach it.

You can add pretty much anything you have around your house and go crazy to decorate him.
