Cute Boho Handmade Rainbow Earrings

These boho rainbow earrings are super easy to make with craft items you might already have around your house!

You will need:

1. Scissors
2. White yarn (medium thickness)
3. Thin wire
4. 4 Colours of embroidery thread (for my rainbows I used red, yellow, blue and purple... but feel free to be creative!)
5. Ruler
6. Hot glue gun
7. Bobby pins (optional)
8. 2 Jumprings
9. 2 Earring hooks / backings

Let's get started!

• Cut about a foot of white yarn. Remember, it's better to have more than not enough!

• Cut 4 short pieces of wire. These will keep the structure of the rainbow's arches. You can always cut these shorter later as well.
  • The longest piece will support the outermost and longest arch of the rainbow; the shortest piece will support the innermost and shortest arch of the rainbow.

• Let's start with the shortest arch of the rainbow (in this case, it will be the purple arch). For this arch, we will need the shortest length of wire.

• Carefully tuck the shortest length of wire through the middle of the white yarn.
  • The start of the wire should be about an inch from one of the ends of yarn. You always want to leave a bit of space here!

• Double-knot your first colour of embroidery thread around the yarn and wire and pull it tight.
  • This knot should be quite close to the edge of the wire.
  • It's okay if there is a tail

• Wrap the embroidery thread carefully and tightly around the yarn and wire.
  • Make sure the tail from the knot is also being wrapped with the yarn and wire.

• Once you've wrapped about 1 inch, double knot (always nice and tight!) and cut the tails of thread.
  
  • I always leave a tiny bit of a tail in case the knot gets loose. Once we glue everything together, these tails are easy to hide.

• Now that we have our yarn and wire wrapped, we can finish the arch.
• First, cut any wire that is visible. You don't want any excess wire popping out from under the wrap.
• You can now bend the wrapped yarn into an arch shape. The wire should hold it in place.
• Cut the yarn, leaving about half an inch visible. This excess yarn is our rainbow's cloud!

• The hardest part is over! Now simply repeat steps 2-5 with the other 3 colours!

• Your second arch (in this case, the blue arch) is a little longer than our first.
  • This time, wrap the yarn and wire to a length of about 1 1/4 inches.
• Your third arch (in this case, the yellow arch) is again a little longer than the last one.
  • Wrap the yarn and wire to a length of about 1 1/2 inches.
• Of course, your last arch ( in this case, the red arch), will be your longest.
  • Wrap the yarn and wire to a length of about 1 3/4 inches.

• You can always check to make sure your arches are the right length by placing them beside each other to make sure they all fit perfectly.
• Once all your arches are ready to go, trim the excess white yarn (aka the 'cloud') so that it is the same length on all the arches.

• For my rainbow earrings, I used epoxy glue. However I would strongly suggest instead using a hot glue gun.

• Spread some glue across the inside edge of your longest arch. Quickly press the next arch into it and hold until the glue is set.
  • Leave a dry, unglued spot in the middle between the top two arches. We will be using this space to insert our jump-ring in the next step.
  • If you are using a glue that takes longer to set, use bobby pins to hold the arches together as the glue dries.
• Continue this step for the remaining arches.
  • If necessary, you can add some glue to the back of the rainbow to give it extra support.

• Make sure the glue is completely dry before moving on to the next step!

• Once the glue is completely dry, insert a jump-ring in the middle between the top two arches.
  • You may need pliers to open and close the jump-ring.
• Finally, attach your earring hook to the jump-rings!
• If you prefer a stud style, you can instead glue a basic stud to the back of the rainbow pendant.
