Customized Keyring
I bet you've always wanted to have the best partner for your keys. For this instructable you'll need:
- EVA foam (I used two layers of 1mm)
- Cracks filler
- Vynil latex or some other primer
- Acrylic paint
- Precision cutter
- Pencil
- Glue gun or any glue suitable for EVA foam
- A ring
- A punch
- Paintbrush
Choose and Picture Your Design
First of all, we have to make a design of how we want the keyring to look like. It's advisable to think of something whose complexity concurs with our materials and ability. In my case, I chosed the initials of the person who the present was for.
Transfer the Design to the EVA Foam
Use a pencil to copy the design. Be precise, as you will have to cut it later. If your foam is like mine, of 2mm thickness, you'll have to make it twice.
Cut the Design From the EVA Foam
Now it's time tu cut it with the precission cutter. Be very careful with the holes and corners, as it could break.
Glue the Two Layers Together
Again, if you needed two layers of foam, glue them together using contact glue or silicon.
Make a Hole for the Ring to Pass Trough
Carefully and using a punch, we'll make a hole big enough to let the ring pass through, but small enough to avoid the foam tearing.
Cover It All With a Layer or Two of Cracks Filler
By applying putty we'll make the keyring rigid, and much more tough.
Sand, Sand, Sand
Sand the surface until it is smooth and even. Erase any imperfections from the cracks filler, and apply more layers of it if necessary.
Apply a Lawer of Vynil Latex
This will make the surface to not absorbe all the paint and will toughen it.
Paint It!
Paint your keyring with the desing you prefer.
New Layer of Vynil Latex
This will make it to look shiny and to resist the scratches. Apply several layers if you need an extra resistance.
Set the Keyring to the Ring
Finally, introduce the new keyring in the ring. And that's all! 100% customizable and cheap.
