Customizable Magnetic Tool Drawer Labels (online and Free!)

IMG_7323.jpg

I've made an online customizable magnetic tool drawer label maker. You can add your text in browser and download the file to be 3D printed. You can customize your labels digitally with up to 30 characters and adjust the size to suit your drawer or toolbox. The magnet holes' sizes can also be adjusted to fit your specific magnets. Once you're done designing, you can print the file yourself or use a 3D printing service.

I've used trCAD and paramate to make the customizer, a specialized CAD and publishing software to make online customizers by trinckle.

Supplies

  • 3D Printer or access to a 3D printing service
  • Magnets
  • Glue (I used a glue gun)

Designing the Labels

  1. Visit the online customizer.
  2. Input the text you want on the label. Ensure you stay within the 30-character limit.
  3. Adjust the size of your label to fit your tool drawer or toolbox appropriately.
  4. Adjust the size of the magnet holes to match the magnets you're going to use.
  5. Once you're satisfied with your design download the file.

Sourcing Magnets

If you don't already have magnets on hand, you can order them online. One common place to purchase magnets is Amazon. Search for "neodymium magnets" to find an assortment of sizes and shapes, currently the customizer can only do round magnets. Make sure to choose magnets that will fit the holes you designed in your labels.

3D Printing the Labels

Option 1 - If you own a 3D printer:

  1. Load your downloaded file onto your 3D printer software and start the print!

Option 2 - If you're using a printing service:

  1. Upload your file to the online printing service.
  2. Choose the material you want your labels made from. Most services offer a variety of materials to choose from.
  3. Confirm your order and wait for your printed labels to be delivered!

Assembling the Labels

Once you have your printed labels and have your magnets:

  1. Apply a small amount of glue to the magnet holes in the label.
  2. Place your magnets in the holes. Ensure they're fully seated and flush with the surface of the label.
  3. Allow the glue to dry.

Organize Your Tools

Now that your magnetic labels are ready, stick them on your tool drawers or toolbox. You can easily move them around as needed. Enjoy your newly organized workspace!
