Custom Speaker for Under $50

Make a cool speaker out of almost anything for UNDER $50 (give or take shipping costs)

Parts:

• 12v class t amp (model: Tripath TA2024)
• speaker (2 or 4 ohm preferred) your choice in size depending on your project. I used GRS 3FR-4 Full Range 3" 4 Ohm driver
• 12v rechargeable battery (I used 12V 1.2AH SLA SEALED LEAD ACID AGM BATTERY for size issues)
• 3.5mm stereo panel mount input jack
• 2.1mm x 5.5mm dc coaxial plug
• 2.1mm x 5.5mm dc power jack
• 12v dc charger
• 16awg primary wire (2ft estimated)
• female spade crimps (4)
• solder
• painters tape
• electrical tape
• 1/2 inch long self tap screws (4)
• on/off switch

Tools:

• Drill
• Soldering Iron
• Wire cutters/strippers/crimpers
• Phillips drill tip
• Various size drill bits depending on the ports you purchase
• Marker
• Ruler

Once you found what you want to customize, use the painters tape to cover the areas you are going to drill into

Use your marker and ruler to plan your drill holes. If you make a mistake or don't like the initial layout re-tape and repeat this step as many times as needed, measure twice cut once.

Time to drill!!!
Be very careful, use good judgement and take it slow. No going back after this step.

After you are happy with your drill holes, mount the speaker with the 4 self tapping screws. Before you drill them in, plan on where your speaker terminals will face and make sure that the screws you use are short enough to avoid drilling all the way through your project but long enough to hold your speaker. I used 1/2 inch self tap screws for mine.

Remove all the blue tape and mount all your ports.

Most amps you purchase from partsexpress.com will have instructions on how to wire them. I added a diagram for the visual learners just in case.

Wires on my Amp:
Blue = aux
Red = pos(+) power
Black = neg(-) ground
Green/White = pos(+) speaker terminal
Green/Black = neg(-) speaker terminal
Black/White = on/off switch (wired in series)

After its all wired up, give it a quick test and drop it all into your project box once you are satisfied it works the way you want.

Show it off at parties and be the envy of your friends and family!!!

*Addition*

Try adding a Bluetooth module for easier connection. The module that I want is out of stock and will be back in inventory by June. I will be using Bluetooth Audio Receiver Board v2.1 + EDR A2DP 12vdc from parts express to avoid having to wire in a 12v to 6v step down converter which would cost more than just waiting for my part.
