Custom Name Plate for Your DeWalt ToolSystem 2 Tool Boxes
DeWalt's Tool Boxes have name plate holders that are easy to add your name to once you figure out how to remove the cover! Name plates reduce confusion on jobsites as to who's tool boxes are whose. This instructable is specific to DeWalt's ToolSystems 2.0 tool boxes.
- DEWALT TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0 DS165
- DEWALT TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0 DS300
- DEWALT TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0 DS450
Supplies
- Standard slotted screw driver (flat head)
- Sharpie or Label Maker
Find Name Plate Cover
DeWalt's name plates have the text "TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0" on the front of the toolbox. I almost broke one trying to pry it off so I wrote this instructable in case anyone else runs into the same problem.
Use Slotted Screw Driver to Slide Name Plate Cover
The trick to removing the plastic name cover is to use a slotted screw driver or other prying tool and put it in one of the 2 holes on the bottom of the clear plastic cover.
You then leverage the cover to slide upwards a little before switching to the other hole and doing the same. A few nudges up will allow you to use your hand and pull the cover straight up and off.
Write Your Name on the Backside
With the cover removed you can access the paper strip to write your name or put on a label. Adding an email or phone number can also be useful.
Slide Name Plate Cover Back On
Ensure the paperstrip is flipped with your info is facing outwards. Slide the plastic cover back into place. Make sure the cover slides all the way down to minimize water getting inside.
Additional Tips for Keeping Track of Your Tools
DeWalt makes great tools. Sadly this makes them a coveted item for theft on job sites. Here are some additional tips you can do to help you keep track of your tools.
- Place a second name tag with your contact info inside the toolbox (like under a tray).
- Hide an Apple AirTag, Tile Tracker or DeWalt's own "tool connect" tag into your toolbox or on you tools.
- Register your DeWalt tools online at https://www.dewalt.com/my-dewalt and keep a copy of your sales receipts.
- Use a lock on your toolbox and store tool boxes in a secure room.
