Custom Advent Calendar
When looking in the local super-mega-whatever market a couple of days after the beginning of december, I couldn't spot any advent calendar, so I decided to make a better, custom, DIY version.
Printing
Here you should first have some picture-editing skills, decide for the most inspiring colour combination, text, set the size and finally print the result.
Bear in mind the final dimension according to the content, in my case measuring the chocolate resulted in 3x4cm multiplied by 25(yes, christmas day included) and fitted inside the tree image(thanks pixabay.com) brought a 41x29cm which fits in 2xA4 sheets of cardboard(almost, let's say heavy paper).
Open Up
Using an awl, pin or similar item, poke some tiny holes around three of the edges or shape that you set to open up for every day.
Little Boxes
The depth in my case is the same as the height, I cut some strips of cardboard, closed them to form a little open box and glued the top to te back of the tree; you should get these in line seeing the holes, after fixing them with some tape on the bottom.
Filling
At this point you can fill the empties, but first add some cardboard edges to form a frame and add some strenght.
I've put the "flaps" of the chocolate towards the front to ease retrieving them.
Closing & Finishing Touches
Add another layer of paper before adding the bottom cardboard to close the little boxes and mantain the white colour inside.
Finally close the external box and make a couple of holes on the top to hang the whole thing or add a stand if you plan to keep it on some surface(table, shelf etc.)
