Custard Pie

This Custard Pie is one of my husbands favorites! He absolutely loves this pie. It is like unto a creme brulee or flan. So if you like either of those you will love this.

Ingredients

Custard
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • nutmeg sprinkled on top, as much or as little as you would like
Pie crust
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup milk

MAking Pie Crust

•  Using a pastry cutter: mix flour, shortening, and salt.
•  Add milk and form into dough
•  Roll out into a pie shape big enough to fit a 9" pie plate
•  Place in your pie plate and take a fork and poke hole in the bottom and around the sides(this prevents shrinking)

Scald your milk. Blend eggs sugar, salt, and vanilla in separate bowl. Gradually stir in scalded milk. Pour into pastry shell sprinkle with nutmeg. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35-40 minutes or until knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Enjoy!
