IPad 2 Cupholder Stand
This is a stand for the iPad 2 which works in a Ford F-150. You may have to tweak the design to fit your own cup-holders.
Gather Materials
You will need:
- CO2 laser or something to cut the wood
- 1/8 inch wood sheets in whatever size you can laser (we used 24"x12")
- 12"x12"x3/16" acrylic sheet (any color; we used black)
*Can be made with wood if you prefer
- One foot piece of 2" diameter PVC
- 2-in PVC coupling
- 3/8" dowel rod
- 1" diameter wooden ball
- Craft foam (any color, you can't see it when the project is finished)
- Rubber 1/8 sheet
- Hot glue gun
- Weight to put on the bottom (we used marbles)
Optional:
- Spray Paint

Pipe Mount
The pipe mount allows the top X-piece to stay firmly inside the base.
STEP 1: Assemble as shown below
STEP 2: Cut from the craft foam two disks roughly the size of the bottom piece
STEP 3: Cut a hole in the center (like the middle pieces) slightly smaller than the dowel rod you are using
STEP 4: Sandwich the foam disks as annotated above

IPad Holder X-Piece
This is the part that holds the iPad and connects to the ball and socket
STEP 1: Glue the rectangle pieces together and insert the ball and dowel rod
STEP 2: Glue the smaller plywood x-pieces together with the holed one on the bottom
STEP 3: Screw the rectangle pieces and the plywood x-pieces together with the ball and dowel in the middle
STEP 4: Assemble the larger X-piece as shown
STEP 5: Glue larger X-piece to the top of the ball and socket joint
*Be sure to put the longer part on the long sides of the x-piece.
STEP 1: Glue the rectangle pieces together and insert the ball and dowel rod
STEP 2: Glue the smaller plywood x-pieces together with the holed one on the bottom
STEP 3: Screw the rectangle pieces and the plywood x-pieces together with the ball and dowel in the middle
STEP 4: Assemble the larger X-piece as shown
STEP 5: Glue larger X-piece to the top of the ball and socket joint
*Be sure to put the longer part on the long sides of the x-piece.
The Base
Insert PVC coupling. Spraypaint black if you are cool. If you so desire, insert the pipe mount and fill the base with a weight (we used marbles). Cap it off with the annotated pieces above and make sure it is secure. Glue/tape if neccessary.
Final Assembly
Place the ring of rubber onto the base and slide down to the bottom. Insert the pipe mount into the top of the base, and the dowel into the pipe mount. Both should fit snugly and rotating should require a little bit of force. YOU'RE DONE!! Go put it in your cup-holder and enjoy the use of your iPad in the car.
