Cup Hoder

Many people order food and want to snack on the way home. This poses a problem since while you're driving you might want a bite of food with some sauce, but it makes a mess. My solution to this problem is a platform with a sauce holder and room for food so you can snack on the way home without making a mess.

This design is very simple. To make it you only need a 3d printer and polymers. The last thing you need is access to a 3d modeling software.

First I looked into the dimensions of a cup, car cup holder, and sauce holder. I used the averages of these to decide how big I made my design. The cup holder’s diameter is 2.621 inches. The sauce holder is 1.817 inches wide and 2.008 inches wide.  The height of the cup holder is 3 inches. While this is not adjustable, the measurements are. The cup holder measurements are in between most of most cup holders allowing it to fit in most cars.

The first step if you are going to build this is to build the cylinder where the cup will go.  First open a sketch on either the top or bottom plane . Once you have your sketch complete select the center point circle. If you want to adjust the size of the holder to fit your car simply adjust the diameter and circumference of the center point circle. Once you have adjusted the circle to your desired size, open the center point circle again and make another smaller circle inside of you first. Once you have done this you can click on the extrude command and extrude your circle into a cylinder.

The next step is to make the base for you to eat. Open another sketch on either the top or bottom plane of the cylinder. Select the Line option and build a line from the middle of the outer circle till you make a base that is the size you wish. Once this line is built, build an identical horizontal  one on the opposite side of that line then connect them together with a smaller vertical line. Once you have the outline complete select the 3 point arc. Use the 3 point arc and select the beginning of your lines that were built on the circle. After you do this pull the arc out to the most outer edge of the circle. Then extrude this and make it as thick as you chose.  From the middle of the cup to the edge of the 3 point arc is 1.5 inches.
