Cultivate Plant Clippings in Recycled Glass Bottles!

You will need a Pothos plant and a glass jar or bottle.

The plant you will need is called "Pothos", don't worry it is likely you already have one. They are a very common house plant.

To grow your Pothos in water you will need a glass bottle. Avoid plastic because it could leech chemicals into the water. Don't go out and buy a bunch of glass jars, wait until they accumulate in your home, or ask you friends. It is more environmentally friendly and in my opinion having mismatched containers is aesthetically pleasing. A few ideas for containers are: pickle jars, kombucha bottles, marinara sauce bottles, etc..

Next you will be creating your new plant by clipping the end of your old one. This will not damage your Pothos if you are careful. Do not rip your plant! Cut it with a sharp blade. Your new piece should be close to the height of your glass bottle. Try to use a clipping with most of the leaves at the top, however this is not necessary.

For this step all you need to do is fill your glass container 3/4 with water. You can add plant food, but this step is optional. Next place your plant in the jar or bottle.

Replace the water of your growing container every two weeks. You will notice that roots begin to grow fairly quickly. These plants look great lined up on windowsill. I hope you try out this project!
