This is the pattern for a red panda stuffed animal that I created as a birthday gift for one of my sisters. Lucky I thought to write it down when I made it, so I can share it now.

Supplies

To make this project you will need:

  • Orange Yarn
  • Brown Yarn
  • Tan Yarn
  • Black Yarn
  • 2 Safety Eyes (8 mm)
  • Yarn Needle
  • Crochet Hook (size G)
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker (A bobby pin works just fine)
  • Stuffing

Abbreviations:

st - stitch

sts - stitches

Inc - increase (two sts in one st)

Dec - decrease (st two sts together)

*Note, this pattern is made using the single crochet stitch*

*Note, any instruction for an Inc or Dec followed by a number of sts is intended to be repeated until you reach the row marker*

In Orange Yarn

1: 6 sts in magic loop

2: Inc 1 every st

3: Inc 1 then 1 st

4: Inc 1 then 2 sts

5: Inc 1 then 3 sts

6: Inc 1 then 4 sts

7: Inc 1 then 5 sts

8: Inc 1 then 6 sts

9: 1 st in every st

For these next two rows, I would suggest not to bind off either yarn until all of the white sts are made. After adding the white yarn and making the 1st set of sts hold the white yarn towards the inside of the head while doing the sts in orange and alternate back and forth so only the desired pattern is showing in the front.

10: 1 st in every st, on sts 5-7 & 15-17 use white yarn

11: 1 st in every st, on sts 4-6 & 16-18 use white yarn

Sew ears on head

Sew head on body

Sew arms, legs, and tail on body

After sewing each piece together, make a series of knots over a nearby st with extra yarn and pull it through a few other sts before cutting it.

When sewing the pieces together, you can use my pictures as a reference or sew them together how you would like.
