Crochet Wind Spinner

I made this crochet wind spinner for my home's Christmas decoration. This project is simple and beginner-friendly because we only need basic crochet stitches. It can be made longer for window decoration or shorter for the Christmas tree.

- Yarns of two different colours. It can be whatever yarn you have at home; Use the two colours with similar thicknesses.

- Crochet hook compatible with the chosen yarn; I used a 3 mm one. 

- Tapestry needle;

- Scissor;

- Small wooden balls (optional).

As it is a Christmas decoration, I recommend yarn colours such as white, red, gold, and green are chosen. Christmas colours that match your home decor.

Abbreviations:

ch - chain stitch

dc - double crochet

sl st - slip stitch

incDC - increase in dc (refers to two double crochet stitches made on the same base point)

inc3dc - three double crochet stitches made on the same base point

PATTERN

Row 1 - Chain stitches

This row will define the size of your crochet wind spinner, so make the number of chains correspond to the length you want.

As an example: my longest wind spinner was approximately 85 cm long and I made 110 chains using 4 mm thread. My smallest wind spinner, which can be used to place on the Christmas tree, is 15 cm long and I made 21 chains using the same yarn. Both lengths are with the pendant disregarded.

Row 2 - incDC - increase in dc

In the 3rd chain, counting from the needle, make a double crochet and continue making 2 double crochets in each chain from the previous row. Use the same yarn used in row 1.

Cut the yarn leaving a 20 cm piece. This thread will be used to make the finish and a handle for the wind spinner to be hung.

Undo the working handle so the pattern doesn't come off.

Row 3 - inc3dc - three double crochet stitches made on the same base point

Using yarn of a different colour than used before, work 3 double crochets in each base stitch. A strategy to start your row is to make 3 chains imitating double crochet.

Undo the working handle so the pattern doesn't come off.

Row 4 - sl st

With the same yarn used on row 3, work slip stitches through all the base stitches.

Gather the three threads from the end of the wind spinner. Tie two knots: one at the base and another 10 cm apart, making a loop of thread to hang.

Probably the shape of your wind spinner must be strange. Organize the layers and their format.

In order for your wind spinner to be organized in the air I suggest you put a hanging thing at the end of it. For this project, I used yarn and wooden balls but you can use whatever your imagination allows. I would love to see your idea.
