Crochet Watch Strap

In this instructable I will show you how to create a replacement watch strap. The new strap is crocheted out of thin yarn and all the other parts of the watch are reused. This is a straightforward project which does not take a lot of time.

Materials

Materials Needed:

  • 1 crochet hook 1.25mm or No. 4
  • 1 ball of yarn - super fine 1
  • 1 wrist watch of your choice
  • 1 plastic bag
  • 1 table knife

For the length of the crochet chain I tried to match it to the length of the old wrist watch strap. As a precaution I added 5 more loops.

After the chain is completed, crochet one more loop and start a new row.

Repeat this process for all desired rows. For my strap I used double crochet for all the next 6 rows.

To know how wide your crochet strap should be, try to match it to the width of the old strap.

Look at any crochet book to see how to do the double crochet stitch.

Finishing the Strap

When you have finished your strap, tie a knot and leave a piece of yarn at the end. Crochet this piece in and out a few times and then cut off the rest.

Completely separate the old strap from the watch, be careful not to loose any of the pieces.

Securing the Buckle

Place one end of your strap on top of the buckle and over the old piece of strap. Make sure it is a good fit and sew it or crochet it together. I used the same yarn.

Next replace the little springs onto the back of the watch. I did this inside of a plastic bag, as if the spring jumps you can easily loose it.

I put one end of the spring in and used a table knife to push in the other end.

To hold in place the remaining hanging part of the crochet strap sew a snap fastener onto your strap.
