While looking at fun yard games to play outside I ran across a twister game where they spray painted color spots on the grass and played twister like that.

It got me thinking how fun it would be to make twister spots that were not only reusable but also not attached together so you could put them in any order you wanted.

So I created these twister spots! It's so much fun to play with the spots mixed up or really far apart.

Supplies

You will need:

  • crochet hook
  • 1 skein of red yarn
  • 1 skein of blue yarn
  • 1 skein of green yarn
  • 1 yellow yarn
  • tapestry needle

I used size H 5.0 mm hook for these. For the yarn, I used the Red Heart Super Saver 7oz skein. These have about 364 yards and I used one skein for each color.

Abbreviations:

sl st = slip stitch

ch =chain

dc = double crochet

For these spots the ch 2 at the beginning of each round does not count as a dc.

Start with a magic ring and chain 2.

Round 1: 12 dc into magic ring. Sl st to beginning ch to join. (12)

Round 2: Ch 2, 2dc into every st around. Sl st to join. (24)

Round 3: Ch 2, *2dc, dc, repeat from * around. Sl st to join. (36)

Round 4: Ch 2, *2dc, dc, into next 2 sts, repeat from * around. Sl st to join. (48)

Round 5: Ch 2, *2dc, dc, into next 3 sts, repeat from * around. Sl st to join. (60)

Round 6: Ch 2, *2dc, dc, into next 4 sts, repeat from * around. Sl st to join. (72)

Round 7: Ch 2, *2dc, dc, into next 5 sts, repeat from * around. Sl st to join. (84)

Bind off and use tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Now make 6 spots of each color.

Now that you have all 24 spots you can place them however you want to play. Here are a few ideas on how to play with your twister spots.

  • Traditional way
  • Mix it up placing all the colors randomly.
  • Make the spots really far apart for a "hard to reach" game.
  • Make a new shape with them.
  • Place one of each color in front of all the players and they can only play on those 4 spots.

These are just a few ideas, really the sky's the limit. Make up your own way to play!

If you don't have a twister spinner you can always make some cards to draw or dice that have the color and hand or foot on them.
